GP Surgery in Musselburgh

I've just moved to Musselburgh and need to register with a GP. New neighbours have mentioned that the GP surgery is the amalgamation of 2 old practices under one roof, but still separate, if that makes sense? Neighbour also mentioned that one was good and one wasn't, and that I should register with the 'good' one. Does this resonate with anyone? And if so, which is the 'good' practice I should be registering with?

First you need to phone them and check that they are accepting new patients and that they accept patients from your postcode. Then you fill in the form to register. If they're not accepting new patients you need to contact national services and ask for help with finding a GP.

Riverside is the bad one and Inveresk the not so bad one. Although Riverside has just had massive investment following an awful 2 years so this may flip.
They both have their catchment maps on their websites so check your can choose. If you are in a shared area they alternative which months which practise if taking on new patients.

Thanks @Kaffiene So it looks like I'm within the boundary for both of them which would mean in theory I could choose...but according to Inveresk's website they aren't taking any new patients until 1 August. It all seems quite complicated compared to my previous experience of registering with GPs!

Riverside has had a lot of bad press. Not undeservedly. they have made changes.

my own experience was I phoned a few weeks ago and got a telephone appointment with a doc that afternoon.

they also have a MH nurse you can contact and get very speedy help from.

Inveresk is the better surgery. Even though the other one (riverside) has been given extra money etc it’s still not as good as Inveresk.
My work colleagues are at riverside and 2 of them have been on hold for over 40 minutes in the morning several times this week to try and speak to a receptionist to get an appointment.
I’m with Inveresk and never have problems getting through and getting an appointment.
Both surgeries are in a building that also has speech and language, paediatric dentistry, mental health clinic and cahms services.
Plenty parking and you can use the Tesco beside it for parking too.
