She has been arrested. Wonder what is going to come out now about the SNP and their dodgy dealings!

An appropriate response

I love your username @Fandabedodgy .

ismu · 11/06/2023 16:34

@GulesMeansRed I'm just saying that arrest in Scotland is not equivalent to arrest in England. And people on here don't understand that.
And yes, the police do investigate most complaints even trivial ones.
There's obviously a judgement call but it's not their place to prosecute.

Whataboutery is obviously ok for unionists some people but not for the SNP EnvyHmm we all do live in the same UK at the moment and I don't see how Scotland is exempt from problems that affect the UK ? We don't have some magic different money tree. Its amazing that any thing at all is even slightly better in Scotland ( like lower than UK child poverty or 3 of the best hospitals in the world).
Guess that must be because we have had an SNP government?

Nothing will come of it, same as her hubby. She'll be released later on and it'll blow over

She will be released later.

But it won't blow over.

Economic crimes take months, often years to come to court and conclusion.

Look at Natalie McGarry. That's been on the go since 2014.

The Sturgeon Spectacle is going to be an extended run.

Fandabedodgy · 11/06/2023 16:37

StaunchMomma · 11/06/2023 15:06

Her husband was arrested then released without charge and bet it will be the same with her.

It's all rather curious though, isn't it?!

It's a normal stage of investigation

Iwantcakeeveryday · 11/06/2023 16:53

Just read the good news!

ismu · 11/06/2023 16:16

I do always wonder how people who comment on Scotsnet know absolutely nothing about Scots law.
One complainer can be enough to raise an investigation.
That's because the police do not decide whether or not a case is prosecuted- it passes to the procurator fiscal.
Arrest is necessary for formal questioning towards a statement that stands in court.
It makes me wonder if you live in Scotland.

I live in Scotland and I'm a practising solicitor.

ismu · 11/06/2023 17:44

@NatashaDancing well dependant on your practice you'll know that one complainant can be enough, no matter what your political views are.
Of course police Scotland will investigate. For instance I could complain that the law firm @NatashaDancing works for does something inappropriate and they should investigate... they would- even if they found nothing.

Maybe you just do conveyancing though?

I am assume that is tongue in cheek. Sorry you are all going through this - you deserve better.

pyjamalife · 11/06/2023 17:55

Released without charge pending further investigation

YouCantTunaFish · 11/06/2023 17:58

Predictable but hopefully they will be doing some serious investigations and the re-arrest for all three will be happening ASAP

I imagine Sir Keir Starmer is rubbing his hands in glee. With the SNP discredited, he may win the next GE outright.

Scottishskifun · 11/06/2023 18:45

ismu · 11/06/2023 15:41

The police will pass all the evidence to the procurator fiscal who will throw out a criminal case as this is all a party matter. It's a complaint brought by a vexatious and frankly batshit complainer who is unhappy that his personal donations to the SNP can't be directly traced to independence.
He will probably use all this evidence to bring an extremely lengthy and boring civil case which he will be lucky to get expenses for - if we could all trace our donations were only used for something we personally approve charity would collapse.
It's just a shame this is front page news rather than Boris but there you go.

A investigation is not solely based on one "batshit" complainer as you put it. The investigation process is a lot more then that (and in this case 2 years+).
But you clearly know more about the legal process then people who's job it involved because......oh yes your an independence supporter so obviously its all a conspiracy theory to quash independence!

By the way the police (or other bodies who can raise cases to the PFs office) don't do it for the hell of it nor do they do it for party matters as you put it they raise a case to the PFs office because there is considered to be enough evidence that laws may have been broken.

ismu · 11/06/2023 19:00

Yes @Scottishskifun and if they can find enough evidence on this case then it will proceed. I don't think it's a conspiracy just a well documented and disaffected individual with an axe to grind.

storminamooncup · 11/06/2023 19:42

I am so sick of the 'if you don't support SNP, you must be English' bigotry spouted by some on MN and on Twitter. Or that you must vote Tory.

Its just sheer desperation from those who are running out of arguments (not that they had much of an argument to begin with)

NS could assassinate the King, on live television, be covered in blood, with a smoking gun in her hand and SNP nutters still wouldn't believe it was her fault.

justasking111 · 11/06/2023 21:01

Not sure who you would vote for if you're disillusioned with the SNP it's such a mess

I do vote Tory - or Lib Dem. I'd vote for any candidate who kept an SNP candidate out.

storminamooncup · 11/06/2023 22:24

As would I, but my point is that not every anti-SNP poster is a Tory voter.

Rainbowshit · 11/06/2023 22:40

It astonishes me that anyone would think that the police would go as far as arresting the former first minister purely because one individual with an axe to grind made a complaint.

Given how high profile this is they would have made damn sure they had good cause to arrest her.

Politicians gather enemies all the time, it can’t be that easy to prompt an arrest based on that

They might gather enemies but for the police to spend so much time on this, arresting and releasing three senior political leaders.
Plus all the other time on it. They are going to look stupid if they aren't able to press charges / have enough evidence for the fiscal to press charges.

Can you imagine the rammie the police wasted x man hours when they couldn't prove any wrong doing

don't see any problem with charging Sturgeon, given that Salmond was charged on evidence which was shown to be manifest bollocks.

I think we agree. If there wasn’t weight to it it’d be too easy for politicians to be arrested over any complaint
