She has been arrested. Wonder what is going to come out now about the SNP and their dodgy dealings!

The police will pass all the evidence to the procurator fiscal who will throw out a criminal case as this is all a party matter. It's a complaint brought by a vexatious and frankly batshit complainer who is unhappy that his personal donations to the SNP can't be directly traced to independence.
He will probably use all this evidence to bring an extremely lengthy and boring civil case which he will be lucky to get expenses for - if we could all trace our donations were only used for something we personally approve charity would collapse.
It's just a shame this is front page news rather than Boris but there you go.

I think you’ve a little surprise coming.

GulesMeansRed · 11/06/2023 15:44

Told you, there are some SNP diehards who will never ever accept that the sun does not shine out of oor Nicola's arse.

Well clearly there will be no choice soon enough. Enough information has been released by the police to know it’s not a vexatious case by a donator.

GulesMeansRed · 11/06/2023 15:46

And do these people REALLY think that the polis have nothing better to do than investigate civil/internal matters?

ismu · 11/06/2023 15:47

@Gymgoingfool no I don't- this is just how the Scottish system works. They can't keep any statements as evidence without arrest and the police have a duty to investigate complaints brought.
There is nothing legally wrong with what's been done with the party money- even if they'd held champagne receptions with it there is no need for them to justify or even actually have audited accounts.
This is just someone with a personal axe to grind and the police are actually doing what they are meant to.
Sadly not happening with the Met.

Wheredoesthetime · 11/06/2023 15:48

It genuinely blows my mind that there are still people that believe this is all the work of an individual with an agenda.

The former first minister would not be arrested without some hefty reason why. Christ on a bike she presented to the police station on agreement. Yet yesterday posting about her theory test results knowing full well today she was going to be arrested.

For fuck sake give your head a wobble.

I won't say anything else because I know the laws here are tight on that shit but my goodness engage your brain.

After that rant I'm away to drink my aldi Prosecco that I have just went and bought due to this news!!

GulesMeansRed · 11/06/2023 15:51

engage your brain.

And therein lies the problem, @Wheredoesthetime.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 11/06/2023 15:54

Hope she got to take her travel iron in with her.

Nothingisblackandwhite · 11/06/2023 15:54

Nothing has been proven and she hasn’t been shared so maybe the unionists here need to calm themselves a bit

ismu · 11/06/2023 15:56

This is bigger than party politics and unionism- we need to be really sure that due process is followed and there is adherence to the law. I'd hope to see everyone cleared in this but for all the mumsnet Nicola haters there needs to be a rain check.
At the moment for nationalists it's easy just to think the SNP are being victimised and devolution is under attack which strengthens our resolve.
Also...what if there's genuinely no case to answer?? Where do you go from there??

BeverForget · 11/06/2023 15:59

Always knew that Ian would get done for it...

Wheredoesthetime · 11/06/2023 16:01

No case to answer? Really.

Continue being victimised then. I could not give a fuck I just want a competent and financially sound party running my country.

I want education to function not having to attend fucking meetings about how the violence in schools is escalating at a rate never before seen

I want to be able to take my kids to the dentist without a 3 month wait

Competent government ministers who don't make a monumental fuck up of any legislation they attempt to bring in.

The greens nowhere fucking near government

Potholes actually fixed

And so on and so fucking forth so even if this turns out to be a storm in a tea cup I will be forever greatful for it shinning a light on the absolute shitshow that is Scottish politics

NatashaDancing · 11/06/2023 16:03

Brilliant.

NatashaDancing · 11/06/2023 16:06

Indeed as if Police Scotland are going to spare the time, money and effort pandering to one donor with a grudge.

Maybe it's you that needs a rain check - this is due process in action - not having due process would be her being thrown in jail without any sort of trial or something.

And I do hope you will uphold your idea of 'adherence to the law' if her and her husband are found guilty in a court of law.
If there is no case to answer then they would be found not guilty.

GulesMeansRed · 11/06/2023 16:08

Makes me laugh the nats banging on about "due process" when their own party and own government hasn't the checks and balances to stop this happening. No accountability. The sort of thing which lets them piss money away on commissioning ferries which don't work, and are at the stage where it would be actually cheaper to call a halt now and get them built overseas.

An utter shower of hopeless numpties.

ismu · 11/06/2023 16:16

I do always wonder how people who comment on Scotsnet know absolutely nothing about Scots law.
One complainer can be enough to raise an investigation.
That's because the police do not decide whether or not a case is prosecuted- it passes to the procurator fiscal.
Arrest is necessary for formal questioning towards a statement that stands in court.
It makes me wonder if you live in Scotland.

ismu · 11/06/2023 16:18

Also @Wheredoesthetime
Please check and see if these things are better in England, especially the dentist, let me know how that goes

Wheredoesthetime · 11/06/2023 16:23

@ismu I don't live in England so that's entirely irrelevant. As the nationalists frequently say we are a separate country.

Genuinely Sturgeon has destroyed the independence movement. I think that is sad. I'm not yes or no I just want a country functions and under her leadership that has not been the case.

Guilty or not Nicola Sturgeon should have been a role model instead she has brought nothing but shame

But that's exactly what other people are also saying, this arrest is part of the process of investigation. Them being released without charge is also part of an investigation.
And no, I'm not from Scotland, I didn't realise that meant I couldn't have an opinion.
I said IF they were prosecuted (hypothetical), would you still maintain that due process was followed? Or are you convinced this is some sort of witch hunt?

flapjackfairy · 11/06/2023 16:24

Wow what a week.

Trump charged.Boris forced to resign taking JRM and the delusional Nadine Dorries ( known as the Mrs Tishell of british politics in this house) with him.
And now Sturgeon arrested!
Goodness knows what we should expect next.

Alifeless · 11/06/2023 16:25

GulesMeansRed · 11/06/2023 14:49

Everything that so many people have been saying for years about lack of oversight, no third-party scrutiny, an opinion echo chamber and basic incompetence is coming home to roost. What an absolute shitshow.

Think I can hear the fireworks going off at Anas Sarwar's house from here...

Yes, it was obvious from Alex Salmond’s day that this was a deeply anti-transparent party. And that didn’t change with NS.

GulesMeansRed · 11/06/2023 16:26

It makes me wonder if you live in Scotland.

Hah! Is this the new "you're not properly Scottish if you aren't a yesser"?

Anyway, I;m sure the police get all manner of complaints every day of the week, if MN is anything to go buy. People are advised to complain to the police for everything from someone looking at them funny to their child losing a jacket at school. And you are trying to get us to believe that Police Scotland don't filter all of those complaints, deciding which are serious enough to warrant investigation? That they send officers to look at every single one, presenting a full dossier to the PF office who then decide to prosecute? You really must think our heads zip up the back.

And we're not talking about whether "things are better in England". We are talking about that fact that lots of things are shite in Scotland, and getting worse. Nats just can't help themselves with the distraction whataboutery.

annabelindajane · 11/06/2023 16:30

As I posted on another thread Michael Glackin in Times commented that if Scotland were a local council in England it would have been placed in special measures by Westminster by now over the total mismanagement of our and English tax payers money .

You are making the mistake of thinking that everyone changes their opinion in response to facts.
