Contextual offer

Looking to uni applications for my daughter - just surprised/shocked that our postcode gives us a 'flag' with Edinburgh uni so an advantage over other students with exact same ucas points everything else considered. To explain we are in a big ish house on a main road in a very leafy town with a comfortably top 10 high school. I suppose we are maybe on the edge of some council housing but that is mostly bought anyway. Above average income from two working invested in the kids yadda yadda parents. Can't be right / fair can it?

SIMD is a very blunt tool but that’s the way it works. I understood they were going to try and refine more re contextual offers but at the moment your DC would benefit .

DD would get a contextual offer if she moved in with her maternal GPs (who have a postcode in the lowest SIMD but are reasonably well off!). She wouldn't get any offer if she continued to live with us.

Thanks for replies. I just think I would be livid if I was another family with different circumstances locally without a flag but with mitigating circumstances but postcode didnt fit. We don't need to do any shenanigans re relations addresses. It's really unfair. And does the postcode help not so blatantly in other applications....anyway thanks again I needed to tell someone and local friends without similar idiosyncrasies with their postcode weren't the best audience!

You are an outlier, OP. There'll be many genuine candidates for a contextual offer in your post code by the sounds of it. The system isn't perfect, not least because so many kids already have a massive advantage thanks to their background and perhaps their school. Presumably you're at a state school?
The occasional wonky contextual offer is frankly the least of the system's worries.
