Babysitter rates

Hi
My 18 year old (responsible) son is advertising baby sitting services (from age 7 and over) locally.

Can anyone advise on an appropriate hourly rate? He drives so he can transport himself. He has experience of tutoring with younger ones.

Thanks!

Our last babysitter charged £8/hour. She was early 20s and we gave her a raise to £9/hour as felt she was charging too little.

For an 18 year old, I’d expect £7/hour or maybe £7.50 if they come recommended.

(I think £7.49 is the 2023 min wage for an 18 year old.)

Also some sitters give two rates, a regular rate while the kids are awake, and a reduced rate, say £5/ hour, once the kids are asleep. They can then study/watch films/game in peace.

Thank you!

A quick scroll through our local facebook page suggests most are charging £10 an hour. One of those is a fully qualified and experienced nanny and the other was a uni student. Others don't advertise their rates but they all mention having a PVG disclosure.
