Hello,

Just wondering if anyone's child has gone to Dundee university and what they did for accomodation. We live in Edinburgh so it's probably going to be Halls or some kind of self-catering student accomodation.

He's our first and we're a bit clueless!

Dundee university halls are newly renovated so I’d say pretty good to stay during term time. If he can cook and study then go for self catering. If he cannot cook then go for catered halls. Get breakfast and dinner I think.

Ours went to halls for the first year. There are good ones and less good ones. I will ask my son when he wakes up! I would do it ASAP tho!

He can cook, and to some extent might be safer cooking his own because he is type 1 diabetic and I'm not sure how easy it would be to carb count in halls.

It's not for this year, thankfully. We're just doing our homework so we're very ready when the time comes. He's still a year from applying.

If he has a bus pass, the ember buses are a really nice way of getting between the two cities - they come into dundee at the science centre so closer to dundee uni.
Not that it answers your question but it might also be useful for things like open days.

Yes I have a dc at Dundee uni who was in halls on campus in first year.

I don’t think Dundee has any catered halls.

There's quite a good summary of the options on their website

There are other options such as the Hub.

Feel free to ask me any specific questions.

My Dd graduates from Dundee next Month. The first year she took a room at the Accommodation on Perth Road. 2nd year she moved to the Old Mill accommodation near Lidl. Her only complaint was their payment dates were awkward with saas so she had to be savvy, but she liked the area. The last 2 years she took private accommodation with a flatmate from her first year who then shared the 2nd year too and a friend from nursery who moved to Dundee. The 3 of them took another flat in Peddie Street which they loved the 24 hour bakery 🤣.

My Dd loved Dundee and the city. We’re off for a Wee Mexico as it was our favourite place to eat.

In my experience, for the first year in Belmont, you can pay a little more for some of the shared flats and this gives you more space in the bedroom and 5 sharing the kitchen/lounge rather than 6.
All of the University accommodation is self-catered as someone else said.
