New income tax rates- more squeeze on the middle

Thoughts on the new tax rates?! I’m shocked at how little press it is getting and how we just accept being taxed so much more than elsewhere in the UK! We’re in a cost of living crisis and the SNP seems to think that middle earners should contribute almost half of their pay, without the national insurance relief given down south.

Most NHS workers and teachers will now be paying 42% tax bracket.

Are you saying that the vast majority of Scottish schools are inferior to English ones? Is this specifically related to cfe? My son is in P1 in Scotland and seems to be learning a lot, reading well and exposure to French etc as well as all the Scots stuff.

I haven’t any experience of English schools but I’d imagine thry must be ranked higher in the league tables as scotlands performance has widely thought to have fallen off a cliff since cfe was introduced.

I read that Scotland is rejoining the league tables so will watch with interest.

I have had children in school in Scotland and NI. NI is streets ahead.

My dd CV is a science teacher in secondary school in England but was educated in Scotland following cfe and did her undergraduate degree here.

In her experience behaviour of students is better and the curriculum is more challenging in England. Expectations are higher.

You’re right. In terms of literacy and numeracy, England have moved up since introducing specific phonics and numeracy curriculums.

Scotland doesn’t have a tracker for this except a broad range of levels, decided by teachers with no clear examples given by the government to inform a national standard. But it is clear to see that looking at standardised tests (results not given back to students- purely for government to look at- schools have access too) there is a clear drop over the years of cfe and snp. Hence the leaving of league tables under the pretence of character/broader education.
