Will be interesting to see what happens next!

I have to admit I had been wondering about the loan. I know it wasn't properly declared and it certainly seems odd but I couldn't work out what the actual dodginess was beyond that. I think I am too innocent for these things!

The rumour on Twitter is that sturgeon is going to step down as an MSP. 🤞🏻

I’d be extremely surprised if she does that quickly. It’ll be seen instantly as an admission of guilt.

When are the next Scottish Parliament elections?

I wouldn’t be surprised if, especially if she’d expecting the shit to really hit the fan with things found, she decides not to stand again using the “I’m a distraction” line.

KnittingNeedles · 11/04/2023 08:49

Agree @YetMoreNewBeginnings . She'll lie low (well, as low as she can do with the press on her doorstep) and bide her time, then in autumn 2025 (elections due 2026) she will make a big statement about exciting new projects like her autobiography, a job on some EU advisory body, a lobbying job in New York.

If she can get that far without a criminal record, of course.

Posted this on the other thread.
Apparently Humza has just revealed that the SNP hid the resignation of their auditors during a police investigation for 6 months.
The whole thing is absolutely staggering.

What?! Off to search for this new snippet, it is boggling!

Does he really expect us to believe he knew nothing about this?!

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 11/04/2023 14:05

Surely there will be things he didn’t know before being leader?

I mean, if he was the finance secretary and didn’t know then that would have been a major problem. Unless his implication is they they quit and no-one bothered to try and get a replacement for them

It smells to me like he’s trying to distance himself and I doubt very much that will work. He’s very closely linked to them.

The alternative is that he did know, but still wanted to be leader. Would you want to be leader knowing what was likely to come out? I think if he had known, he would have been distancing himself before now.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/04/2023 14:15

Wonder if Kate Forbes knew. She was on mat leave, though.

It is all so very murky.

Sugarfree23 · 11/04/2023 14:18

There is probably a reason why Kate Forbes didn't want to for form part of Yousafs government.

I'm sure it will all come out in the wash. I imagine most of SNP suspected something.

Wonder how many more party members have wrapped.

ThisIsUncool · 11/04/2023 14:22

I never thought I'd say this, but I actually feel a bit sorry for Humza. I don't think he had any idea what he was letting himself in for.

Sugarfree23 · 11/04/2023 14:28

I think he must have known. I don't know why I think that but I do.

However Kate Forbes and Ash Reagan are probably counting their blessings that it's not them in the hot seat!

This is the auditor of the party itself not government so no more or less the responsibility of the finance Secretary than any other minister. But there are definitely questions over how a party that is so poor at overseeing its own finances can be fit for government.

No wonder the ferries are such a mess.

Given Ash Regan’s criticism of PM at the start of her campaign, and her resignation from government, I think she would probably have relished being in the hot seat now.

My point is that he’s not going to know absolutely everything before being in charge.

So if he’s saying “I didn’t know and I should have” then he should be saying that. Simply saying “I didn’t know” doesn’t actually give relevant information.

He’s trying to distance himself without actually saying anything that either distances himself or incriminates himself.

kinda non-information really - which doesn’t make him look anymore transparent than his predecessor

Or that he went into it knowing full well what happened but hoped we’d all believe (or at least, enough would believe) the ‘I know nothing, honest guv’nor’ line and extend him our sympathies at finding himself at the centre of such a political storm at the beginning of his position as FM.

Who knows - let’s hope for his sake he didn’t know and that can be proved in law. The whole thing is beyond murky - if their own Ministers didn’t know their auditors had resigned then it shows what a dictatorship the SG have become.

A continuity candidate….

A continuity candidate….

Exactly.

And as the one currently in the hot seat he’ll end up carrying the can for anything that emerges from here…

ThisIsUncool · 11/04/2023 14:53

Ha! I don't know enough about him to be able to guess whether he didn't know, or he did know and had a cunning plan.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 11/04/2023 15:04

Humza having no idea about the party financial affairs is like Boris saying he had no idea he was at a party during lockdown.

⬆️ that’s especially for posters who like to refer to Westminster/Toaaarries whenever there’s a mention of bad behaviour at the McCooncil HQ.

PoBaFla · 11/04/2023 15:11

Staggie · 07/04/2023 22:34

But the accounts have always been signed off ? And they gave notice to step away last year?

But people obviously did know about it.
This was posted on this thread on Friday and when I asked the poster where she'd seen that (as SNP were declining to comment when asked when they'd resigned) she didn't say

Sugarfree23 · 11/04/2023 15:22

Well spotted @PoBaFla, now if @Staggie knew then presumably those close to SNP leaders also knew.

The plot thickens. This is all more fun watching it unravel than the average film, MGM Roar on!
