North Berwick or Portobello

Subject says it all really.
Currently live in NB, I am considering a move to Portobello but have a nagging question in my head as to whether or not its the right thing to do.

My main reason for moving is to be closer to the city I suppose. DC go to day schools in Edinburgh so it would cut down their commute. DH and I both work in Edinburgh too.

On the other hand, DC have a lot of friends in NB and are part of lots of clubs and sports teams. It is a nice relaxed place to live with a really good sense of community.

Houses in NB seem like a good investment, is the same true for Portobello? (appreciate this can always change).

NB all the way. The train to Edinburgh is so fast and reliable.
Portobello is ok but nothing in comparison to North Berwick. It's not the same community and the beaches isn't as nice etc.

@misssunshine4040 thanks. Thats interesting what you say about the community as its one thing we really like about NB. There is the train at Brunstane and lots of buses into town from Portobello. The NB train isnt all that reliable in the winter - it could well be the same on the Brunstane line though.

Yes this is true about the winter trains, certainly last year anyway.
I just think you may miss the beauty and the unique setting of NB. It's been voted one the most desirable places to live.
The buses to town from Portobello are plenty and you are very hand for the city centre so I guess it just depends what is more important to you.
Less of a commute and more time in your day for is very important too
