P1 School Placement Dates

When I applied the letter said they'd let you know as soon after March 15th as possible. I'm guessing it's definitely not like the English system where everyone sits nervously anticipating if they'll get their choice or not?

On nursery placements they didn't release the decisions until June for the August start, but this was in the midst of Covid.

Anyone any idea when to expect to know and is it likely they'll get offered their first choice which is why everyone seems to calm about it? She's been going into her anticipated school and been assigned a buddy so I'm really hoping they won't pull the rug from under her. We're in West Lothian.

P.S I have no experience of the Scottish School system so this will be a learning curve for me!

You get into your catchment school. If the catchment school is oversubscribed with catchment kids they make it bigger. Where you might not get your catchment school is where do don’t apply at the correct time and move into the area, esp if you arrive mid year. You can apply for a non-catchment school but if it is popular you are unlikely to get in as you will be placed after the catchment kids and after thry have set a few spaces by for kids who might arrive into the catchment mid year.

people are chilled cause they have selected the catchment school and are pretty much 100% guaranteed a place or have applied for out of catchment too but know the chances are pretty slim. It’s no biggie.

Edinburgh usually send them out by the end of the Easter Holidays. It was one year after the Easter Holidays as Easter was early and it was an awful day as numerous children in the nursery didn’t get in and being on the door, I had numerous parents shouting in my face as if it was all my fault.

Nursery for August starts go out in May in Edinburgh as the Early Years team tell nurseries when to send them out.

I got an email from school asking me to bring DC's birth cert in a couple of weeks after the applications. No official confirmation. (Aberdeenshire, in zone, with sibling)

Our emails came out this morning and she's got in to her expected school (Her catchment placement)...it's nice to know the admin is dealt with and get on with prepping her for this next step. 4 months to go!

I'm not expecting anything from the council. I suppose the school will let us know when the visit days are at some point.

We had out letter confirming our out of catchment, now we’re waiting to hear from the school
