Who do you want to see as new First Minister?

And who do you think it'll be if they are different?

Not seen any threads on this yet!

My two cents -

I voted SNP when I was very young (Salmond) and under the impression they were a kinda catch-all working man's party who didn't do much to offend the left or right, but I stopped voting for them ages ago and recently started to actively despise them.

Normally I'm the polar opposite of the Reddit consensus and they seem to want Robertson but only, it seems, because they can't have Mhari Black (which is one MP I DO know and absolutely cannot stand). I feel like Forbes is the only one who'd bring them back to the centre and increase membership as she might attract everyone who left back.

So I suppose I'm a toss-up between Forbes who might pull them away from their more (imho) farcical policies and Black who might finally start to kill them dead in the water.

I do believe Sturgeon resigned because the recent polling data (where ALL age demographics agreed with the WM overturn including a large amount of SNP membership) showed that people vote SNP despite their progressive policies and not because of them. I reckon they knew it would really hurt them at the next election, and since she can't U-turn, the only thing left to do was step aside and let a new leader shift their direction.

I'm interested to know what people on here think though.

Sorry, I should say alleged fraud or fraud probe.

BigBoysDontCry · 26/02/2023 21:45

I'm presuming whatever it is is building on the articles in the press today but who knows, there are plenty of dodgy dealings and scandals to pick from. We could put them on a big wheel and spin it for the story of the day.

QuackMooOink · 26/02/2023 21:48

Interesting article thanks. Good point about having enough scandals and dodgy dealing to make a story of the day!

BigBoysDontCry · 26/02/2023 21:57

I know deep down that in a month or two we might be back to exactly where we started here, but for the moment I am thoroughly enjoying this. At the end of the day it's Scotland that suffers but if we can have a bit of joy at the rats in a sack infighting for now then it's something. They are basically hoist by their own petard.

Humza believes that Bryson is "at it". No shit sherlock but that's you just gone against the code of both the SNP and the greens and probably your own hate crime bill. But then that was something that you voted for, are apparently going to defend to the hilt and being "at it" was never gonna happen eh wide boy?

Apologies if everyone else knew this, but this takes the bottle scheme to towering levels of ill thought out bonkersness.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/f584e5f0-b61d-11ed-a513-158bcb2665eb?shareToken=74356030c8781c4230ee641a52ac4d75

Scottish ministers have yet to approach London for an internal market exemption, despite setting a deadline of Tuesday for businesses to sign up. The scheme is due to go live on August 16.

Slater told The Sunday Show on BBC1 that the scheme was “definitely going ahead” but The Times understands a request for an internal market exemption will be refused.

Sugarfree23 · 27/02/2023 06:40

The bottle scheme just sounds an expensive pain in the arse.

Aye you'll get your 20p back but where is the money coming from for the bottle banks, the administration of the scheme, the cost of different packaging/ bar codes, who's paying for the floor space the bottle bank takes up?

Has anyone actually calculated how many more bottle will end up in recycling rather than the current kerb side collection?

Sugarfree23 · 27/02/2023 06:45

Answer to the first question of the three Kate is the one who has my support. The only one who I actually think is honest.

I wouldn't trust Yunsaf as far as I could throw him.

user567543 · 27/02/2023 07:29

Yeah I read the interview with the Times with Forbes too and thought she sounds the best of them by quite a long way - will have to see if she puts any more policies up but a genuinely pro business and economic growth approach has been desperately missing in action for the last several years.

Rainbowshit · 27/02/2023 07:41

The deposit return scheme is utterly bonkers. The cans must not be crushed.

Yet another green lunatic project I'll be delighted to have the UK government veto.

Sugarfree23 · 27/02/2023 08:20

I think Kates said she'd scrap the bottle return scheme.

Honestly it sounds like another of the 'Scandinavians do it better let's be different' half thought out ideas. No consideration about the cost, how much of a PITA different barcodes will be in the UK.
Hard border at Carlisle for your cola cans - are they on glue?

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2023 08:26

Everything I've read about the deposit return scheme sounds bloody barking.

Apart from anything have they seen the average size of Scottish houses/flats? Where do they think everyone is going to store increasingly subdivided piles of crap?

My old place started as just all in one bin
Then it went landfill, mixed recycling, glass.

New house was landfill, tins and plastics, glass, cardboard.
Then food waste was added.
Then they added a separate bag for paper and card.
Now the tins and bottles which can be returned will need to be separated from the others too. So we're now supposed to store waste in 8 separate piles/containers?

The business impacts of it sound ridiculous too

annabelindajane · 27/02/2023 08:28

Do the civil servants point out the deficiencies in the bill or are they short on understanding policy making like their bosses .?

Workerbeep · 27/02/2023 08:40

I have very little respect for civil servants after watching the Alex salmond inquiry before it was all redacted and censored.

I was taken aback at the contempt, mockery and the sheer ridicule they treated the questioning and it certainly was a wake up call for me.

Workerbeep · 27/02/2023 08:42

Oops pressed too soon…

so I think they are equally lacking in understanding and basic manners and respect for others.

ArabellaScott · 27/02/2023 08:49

At this point it seems they are either deliberately making bad law to push WM to stop them, or just totally incapable of lawmaking.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2023 08:52

The Salmond enquiry was awful. I'm not remotely a conspiracy theorist but something smelled absolutely rotte about that whole situation.

The performance of the various civil servants and politicians was cringe worthy and embarrassing. Supposedly senior people not following policies or inventing policies after the fact...it was grim.

Agree. I can't stand Salmond and was hoping he'd get his comeuppance but the more I heard the more doubt I had.

That is probably the best reason behind this stuff. But really all it does is show SNP up as being incompetent and stupid.

You aren't going to convince people to separate from the rUK by being incompetent and stupid.

ArabellaScott · 27/02/2023 09:05

The Salmond enquiry was a stitch up - and I'm no fan of Salmond.

What absolutely enraged me about it was that it added credibility to bullshit claims about women fabricating rape accusations.

ArabellaScott · 27/02/2023 09:06

Not to mention Craig Murry - another man I have little time for, tbh - being JAILED for fuck all, as a journalist reporting on the trial/enquiry.

Workerbeep · 27/02/2023 09:06

SNP strategy I think has been to make policy, organisations and new laws different than the rest of U.K. ; no matter what the cost, just put a positive spin on it because you know Scotland is unique, better.

Relative privation is the go to argument. Lazy and complicit MSM are also happy to go along with it as it is ready to go ammunition against those in power in Westminster. No critical thinking or analysis (so much for the curriculum for excellence!)

Also they want to be as difficult as possible with the rest of the U.K., making scotland not worth the hassle.

I’m so fed up of them and their divisive behaviour and narrative.

looking at successful independence referendums around the world you are looking at greater than 80% of the population voting in favour of it.

Rainbowshit · 27/02/2023 08:54

Same here. He always gave me utter sleazeball vibes so it was initially very easy to believe. But the more I heard read and saw the murkier it all got

Workerbeep · 27/02/2023 09:59

I think the SNP are just as sleazy if not worse, than all the other parties: Alex salmond; Derek Mackay;
the love triangle of Stewart hosie, his second wife and now SNP councillor serena cowdy
and Angus McNeil; Humza Yousaf and his marriages; daddy bear former MEP and now MSP Alyn Smith and his Trans activist boyfriend who worked for Kirsty Blackman tried to be selected as an MSP Jordan Henderson…

it makes me think about what reasons the SNP have for pushing their progressive agenda and why it’s such a prominent part of their identity rather than business, housing, jobs, health care, education, trade….

jailed for contempt of court, actually. Craig Murray is a blogger who was given the chance to take down a post that potentially identified one of the female complainers in the Salmond trial. He chose not to do so.

They are incapable of good law making because they completely refuse to listen to any opposing points of view.
