Well they were warned that the GRR bill was deeply unpopular...

Keep digging, Nicola. You haven't reached the bottom yet but, with any luck, you will soon.

WombsofWimbledon · 04/02/2023 20:44

I read ‘fall in pool’ to begin with and thought ‘that will be an interesting gender neutral changing room experience’, afterwards.

SauMore · 04/02/2023 21:59

It's all gone very quiet on the section 35 and the indignation over Westminster interfering in Scotland's democratic right to choose Isla Bryson

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 05/02/2023 13:16

Wondferul news. The scales have fallen from the eyes of some of the fanatics who think st nicola can do no wrong.

Shelefttheweb · 05/02/2023 14:50

Fanatics are likely to remain fanatics, it is those in the middle they must worry about. Those who watch the GRR bill and the S35 and thought ‘thank goodness we aren’t independent so the UK government could stop the bill’.

hryllilegur · 05/02/2023 15:24

Yeah. The fanatics are true believers and their numbers are stable.

It’s the majority of Scots who are pragmatic and sensible that Sturgeon needs to convince. The more she plays to zealots of all kinds, the less appealing she and the SNP will be to ordinary Scottish voters.

Uk conspiracy, nothing to do with Nicola, MSM invented, Westminster's fault.

Fanatics indeed.

Splendid.

I always enjoy a bad SNP / Indy poll

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 05/02/2023 15:45

They have spectacularly misjudged the public mood on the trans/self-id issue. Your standard man/woman in the street thinks that Isla Bryson is a man and will always be a man and has no place in a woman's prison. Lots of people are realising that the "be kind" nonsense isn't really kind to women or girls. At all.

MarshaBradyo · 05/02/2023 15:46

Good

ProseccoOnIce · 05/02/2023 20:18

Well, if Nicola Sturgeon was going to pick a hill to die on, this shouldn't have been it.

I get that she is increasingly focusing on the younger demographic but has badly misjudged how the majority of the electorate feel.

Protest against housing of male prisoners in female prisons Thursday 9th February 11:30 at Scottish Parliament.

Catsolitude · 06/02/2023 13:39

Just watched a bit of the press conference. We’ve reached Orwellian levels now. Isla Bryson is either a man or a woman. In what possible world can the First Minister stand up and repeatedly say she views them as a “rapist” and women in this country still stand up for her?
Or say she had nothing to do with her husband lending her party 100k! 100k!!!! That’s not pocket change. She can’t get away with “I don’t recall”. It’s marital assets.
The Scottish public, and in particular Scottish women, are being taken for absolute mugs.

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 06/02/2023 14:09

Isla Bryson is either a man or a woman.

Everyone knows Isla Bryson is a man. Everyone. Except the deluded FM and the Greens.

Link to press conference this morning.

Still refusing to state whether this person is make or female but did slip up at one point and described her as she.

TheBelmont · 06/02/2023 19:01

when are the next relevant elections? I just can’t believe, no matter how ridiculous this situation is, that it will impact the SNP in the elections. Despite everyone recognising how disgraceful this whole episode is…I do worry that people will STILL vote for her.

gawditswindy · 07/02/2023 10:28

I just don't understand why this (which is a pretty niche issue) is the hill she's chosen to die on. And this has shone a bright shining light on an issue which would have remained niche for years to come. For someone who's considered to be a pretty savvy political operative it's hard to understand her real motivations here.

MarshaBradyo · 07/02/2023 11:00

I think it’s the left generally they have taken on board this issue, not just SNP or Labour but in other countries.

Once it’s accepted and you have true believers as MSPs or MPs - Labour has plenty - then it’s very easy to paint yourself into a messy political corner.

It’s so easy to shine a light on essentially what is lying that they get unstuck, but can’t back down.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 07/02/2023 12:02

For someone who's considered to be a pretty savvy political operative it's hard to understand her real motivations here.

The old saying "all political careers end in failure" is true of even the most savvy operators.
