Website seems to say preference is that dogs stay in cars but you can take them out to dog areas in ferry. I would prefer to leave her in the car but just wondered what others experiences of it were?

I think it will depend on the route. Some have closed car decks. The Arran ferry does unless it’s the old ferry. But a lot of the other routes have open car decks and you can sit in the car or get out and walk about.

I expect maybe we couldn’t be sure which ferry it will be til the day? Looking at maybe Mull ferry or isle of Harris

We took our spaniel on the Oban to Mull ferry as foot passengers it was a gorgeous day so we sat out on the deck he loved it. On the way back it was the bigger boat and we sat inside and it was quite nice comfy seats with tvs and windows to look out and there was a couple of other wee dogs sitting at the next seats and he made some friends.
He would have been scared in the boot as its quite noisy, if we had taken car I definitely wouldn't have left him.

That’s what I wondered if she would be scared in the car

Ferries have designated dog areas indoors where you can sit with them. It's usually just the cafeteria and bar areas they're not allowed. No drama.
