Hello, Has anyone stayed at Piperdam recently? Is it nice? Reviews seem mixed. Looking for a long weekend with a hot tub in February. Thought near dundee would be good as we could go into the V&A etc.

@MrsAmaretto I’ve been a few times and stayed in various lodges. We were last there in Sept/Oct time and said we weren’t sure if we would go back. The lodge we were given was definitely in need of a bit of TLC - although it had clearly been lovely when it was done, it just hadn’t been maintained well at all. The bathrooms in particular weren’t great. Our main bathroom had a lovely big rainfall shower but it soaked the floor outside the shower everytime it was used the floor was actually rotting away 😬
Maybe we were just unlucky with that particular lodge as we had stayed at others before that had been fine.

Restaurant isn’t great, swimming pool was fine and our hot tub was clean and was maintained daily.

if it’s near Dundee you are after what about Forbes of Kingennie or if it’s just the two of you, The Hideaway Experience?

Workerbeep · 07/01/2023 15:26

Oh Just remembered…Guardswell Farm: not sure they have hot tubs but looks nice.

MrsAmaretto · 08/01/2023 21:54

Thanks @ScottishMum03 , you’ve confirmed my concerns which is really helpful.

@Workerbeep Forbes of Kingennie looks perfect but it’s sadly fully booked.

Got the kids with us so Wi-Fi free Guardswell would be horrifying for them!

Im wondering about Balmeadowside or even Crieff hydro?

@MrsAmaretto I can’t comment on any of the other places that have been mentioned but we’ve been to Crieff Hydro quite a few times and it’s always been great 😊 Have only stayed in the hotel and in the little studio apartments, so have no experience of their self catering. Anytime we’ve been it’s been lovely and clean with good food and lots of activities to choose from 😊

Not been to Crieff Hydro in many years, but have stayed in all the different accommodation and it's all been good. I have a friend whose gone to Balmeadowside many times and keeps going back so presume it's decent.

BigBoysDontCry · 09/01/2023 12:31

If you don't mind heading south, the lodges at Keswick Reach are good.

mumabitlost · 20/01/2023 21:44

Bit late to the party but I won't be going back to Piperdam again. Last 2 visits each lodge was far past its best...and the check-in process was just awful. I genuinely think they deliberately delayed entry to accommodation just so as to put you in the bar area to spend on food/drink while you waited.

Highlandhome · 11/02/2023 21:39

I'm a bit late too - but there's no wifi in the lodges and 4G signal is patchy. Great for a digital detox ....

I stayed in October last year- lodge was more than fine, clean & modern. Hot tub got a daily clean. Hot tub cover could have done with a replacement, if I was being picky.

MrsAmaretto · 18/02/2023 22:40

Thanks @Highlandhome that sounds like my kids idea of hell! Booked Balmeadowside instead.
