Hogmanay

Fed up the threads from rest of UK greeting about how they hate 'NYE' thought it would be nice to have a Hogmanay banter.

We do Hogmanay at my DPs with extended family. Food, booze, games, stop to watch the comedy on BBC1 - this year Ooh the Banter - then The Bells

Dinner

Lentil soup
Steak Pie with neeps & tatties
Mum has made variety of puddings.

Anyone else?

Yes, fully in prep here, stovies made last night, booze run done and just realised that I forgot the damn beetroot so going to need to brave the shops again 🤦🏻‍♀️We host for neighbours and children so it's a fun house full. I am excited. 🎉🥳

Yum, stovies! We’re rather unconventionally having fondue for dinner tonight and steak pie tomorrow. Love it! So much more relaxed than Christmas.

Detest new year but always go out and always enjoy myself! Picky buffet for a few of us then off to the local "old man's pub". Home and bed for me. Aw the best when it comes!

Ohhhh.... Stovies. they have been out of circulation in my house for too long! Need to make them soon. We are not well in our house so are staying in. We are having lentil soup and steak pie as well, then playing some board games (which will be interesting!). Not decided what we are watching tonight at the bells though. We are a family of 5 so there will be some discussion! Looking forward to the wine! I love Hogmanay in with the family and saying goodbye to 2022 is no bad thing for me! I'm sitting remembering all my grannys rules (clean house, full fridge, silver coin in your hand and a first footer bearing gifts!) I can't get the first footer (unless my DH spends the bells outside!) but will do the rest!

Freesia98 · 31/12/2022 11:48

You can tell I am excited ... I use too many exclamation marks!!!! All the best when it comes to you too!

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/12/2022 11:53

I'm afraid school dinner stovies put me off them for life.

Hope you all had a great night.

With Hogmanay I always think it helps that there is that extra Scottish Bank holiday on the 2nd. It helps you be that bit more relaxed and celebratory on the 1st.

I've lived in England since I was 18 but still make steak pie and marrow fat peas on New Year's Day. It's expected by English Dh and Dc who were born in Norfolk!
I put sausages in with my steak pie as well as beef, as did my grandparents and parents.
