Can someone explain this to me as if I'm 5 years old. Why have we spent £51 million on this? I've googled it and still don't understand it. Thanks

Is this all related to the tax shenanigans which led to the club's bankruptcy? I don't follow football so am not up on the details either.

People were prosecuted for offences in relation to activities when Craig White
The Crown office have admitted these were malicious prosecutions
Which is absolutely huge
The payouts are to compensate the victims of the malicious prosecutions
Former Lord Advocate should have been sacked
But again no accountability on the part of the Scottish government
it has no ramifications for the current board of Rangers

This summarises it pretty much - there are similar summaries in some of the other Scottish press that have less detail if preferred.

Thanks @BinBandit. Good explanation there. £100 million! Awful.

How on earth can there be no resignations? How far we’ve fallen. I remember when the public expected a resignation over inflated claims for taxis or premises rent.
How money has been absolutely frittered away without any ramifications? Ferries, Gupta, this….
Yes I know Westminster blah blah, but taking the whataboutery out of the equation, there’s something rotten in Scotland.

It’s not just about the money
If the Crown Office,by their own admission, have prosecuted people with no evidence and for malicious reasons how can any of us know if won’t be us tomorrow getting charged
