Can anyone recommend a private GP/clinic specialised in menopause in the greater Glasgow area? Really struggling. Impossible to see my GP in person and my case is quite complex in that I have had a hysterectomy (so no periods) and i'm on thyroxine too.

Hi I am sorry I do not have an answer but am exactly in the same boat and watching with interest , it's really crap 😓

Shite, isn’t it. This time of year with the dark nights s always tough but when you’re wide awake at 4am everything seems very bleak.

Ask (insist) your gp to refer you to the QEUH special menopause clinic. I attend there. Life-changing.

I didn't know there was one! I thought it was at the Sandyford. Will definitely ask because most of the advice/info is pitched to women who are still having periods.

It's fabulous. So reassuring & they instructed my GP to prescribe, progesterone, oestrogen & testosterone - bloods checked regularly, bp checked regularly.

Will definitely push for a referral. If you don't mind me asking - how long did it take from referral to appointment, and how often do you see them?

It took about 6 weeks (Pre-pandemic) and I only see them if my bloods have changed (6 monthly) so I've been twice since original referral.

Sorry to jump in,can I ask did your dr automatically refer you or did you push for it yourself? Got a drs appointment next week to discuss my menopause treatment. Thanks

beachcitygirl · 23/11/2022 12:34

I asked to be referred & when GP demurred. I pushed.

HeraldicBlazoning · 23/11/2022 12:54

I am going to push. My GPs just don't have the special training or interest in women's health. They have a diabetes clinic, an asthma clinic, pregnancy clinic etc but no menopause support.

@HeraldicBlazoning same. My gp surgery has these & more including a men's mental
Health support clinic.

None of which I disagree with btw. But my gp literally had no response when I pointed this out pointedly. Then I got my referral instantaneously.

To be fair I think he did see how blatant the discrepancy was once pointed out to him
