Nursing Homes

Looking at nursing homes.
An email from the hospital says the house will have to be sold after 12 weeks. ( It’s joint owned but no one will be living in it ) . Is this true even if self funded ?
I think a part payment to the home will be funded as personal care or nursing care. Sufficient funds are available.

Anyone know ?

Is there sufficient cash available to pay the care home fees, who owns the other half of the house.

The daughter and so joint own the other half . It was left in their father’s will in 2019.

So it sounds like the person has had a financial means test and been assessed as having to self fund the nursing home. As you say the government contributes towards personal care and nursing care but there will still be significant cost due every month to the nursing home.
You do not need to sell the house if sufficient funds are available to pay for the nursing home but when that money runs out then the person will need to use the funds from the half the house they own

The person has not had a financial means test as yet but we do know it can be afforded.

This guide explains how care home funding works, including jointly held property: www.ageuk.org.uk/scotland/information-advice/care-and-support/care-homes/
