My DD is 12 and there is a Disco night at school, it is a girl's school, we are new to Edinburgh and UK, suggestions on dress code will help....What is typically worn. Is it more of a blouse short skirt or blouse trouser or a dress. Smart casuals or bling party wear. Don't want DD to feel out of place. Thanking in advance.

Get your child to ask her friends what they are wearing!

She definite needs to ask. I am not sure 12 year olds wear blouses to anything.

Come on op

I would go with either a casual dress and trainers, or smart jeans with a fun top. At this age you have to stay away from party dresses and tights that may seem babyish. But she should definitely consult with her friends!

Invisimamma · 29/09/2022 22:51

Certainly not a blouse 🤣. She needs to ask her friends as every peer group will be different.

I have a dd this age and she has some ‘floaty’ tops which some might call blouses. OP said she is new to the UK and was asking for some advice. I don’t understand the point of the non-helpful responses. I’m also not originally from the UK and I understand what it’s like to want to help your kid fit in.

Thankyou for the helpful tips, her friends and classmates mentioned crop tops and trousers. So, going with it!!

Yes jeans - if in doubt, dress down, not up.
