Returning to Scotland with English weans

Hiya

We are thinking about moving back to Scotland (previously from Glasgow & Edinburgh so open to either place).

I’ve got two boys who are quite shy really and I feel really uncomfortable about sending them off to a new school
only to be slagged off for their big fat RP English accents.

I grew up in Glasgow and it was really bad in the 80s whenever English kids joined our school - just wondering if it’s the same now or do people care less?

presumably this is not as problematic on the East Coast?

They'll be fine in Edinburgh.

I live in Edinburgh now, and my mum's family were Scottish living in Newcastle. I lost my Geordie / Scottish accent because people in London couldn't understand what I was saying, but I haven't had any obvious prejudice about my accent in Edinburgh. When I first moved here I was worried that I was mispronouncing words, until a lovely Edinburgh taxi driver said that I shouldn't change my accent, because it was part of who I was. That was such a kind and welcoming thing to say that I haven't forgotten his advice. Glasgow might be different though

Have you read the linked thread ( including my comment) and the comment above? It should put your mind at ease.

We are English as they come. We’ve been very much welcomed in north east Scotland. No one bats an eyelid about our accents. Kids have tons of friends.

My DCs Edinburgh primary had kids of about 40 different nationalities.

Same, you wouldn't stand out in our school. Or at high school.
