HNC funding QU - can't get through to Saas...

Sorry 2nd Qu in 2 days...

If a young person does a (computer related) HNC.
Then does another computer related HNC then I assume 2nd not funded.
BUT if that 2nd HNC goes on to become an HND, would that HND yr be funded?

Hmm.
Spoke to Saas & still confused (maybe I'm thick?)

So Ds has place on an HND Software Dev course this year.
Only, College suddenly says, it might be an HNC Computing after all as not sure enough students to run 2nd (Soft Dev) yr (they've cancelled it in the past).
PLUS the room is being refurbed but there wont be the equipment avial that he needs in time for the course starting this year (not for 2 months)

So, Ds is looking at a different HNC course (Cyber Sec) for this year.
He could then start the SoftDev HNC the year after (when the equipment will be in place) Saas say he should get funding for both those HND years as long as the course is listed as an HND on their system at that time (who knows...)

If not, we'd have to pay tuition fees. But could Ds also apply for a bursary (he qualifies), disabled students allowance, & student loan for those years, or not?

I don't think you can get SAAS funding for a 2nd HNC but you would get funding for both years for a new HND having done the initial HNC. So if the cyber security is a 2 year HND then he would get funding to start in year 1. He would be using up his +1 year of funding (so if he is aiming for a degree then he would need to enter at year 3 after the HND rather than start the degree at an earlier year). Would his computing HNC give him 2nd year entry to Cyber Security HND. That way he still has the extra year of funding available.

I asked BIL who works in further education and he says HNC computing gets you into 2nd year of HND Software or Networking at his college and the HND into 3rd year of a degree at some unis (some unis make you start at an earlier year)

@SandyIrvine

I called Saas yesterday.
They said:
HNC Cyber year ok.
HND Computing Software Dev (listed as a 2 yr course at our local College)
also ok as 3 yrs HN £ avail.
If he stopped the HND after yr 1 (sometimes they don't run 2nd yr due to numbers or he might not like it?) then he'd be awarded an HNC Computing.
He would still have 2 Yrs Uni funding left.
BUT then would only be HNC level qualified so which year would he go into?
It would have to be year 2 & it seems both Uni's he's interested in offer diff entry years to diff degrees depending on how well he does on diff degrees?

If he did both years he would have 1 year left but could use his 'spare' year to finish his degree ??

Could you ask your H about that please as I am worried I misunderstood & College now closed

BIL says progression to degree is so course/uni/grade dependent that it can vary from year 1 to year 3. Best to check with degrees you are interested in. He says he only heard of 2nd year entry at best with an HNC but that could be his subject. So if your son got 2nd year degree entry then he would be fine as he'd need 3 years for his degree and had used 2 years for HNs so 4+1 all used up. BIL thinks that his second HN course needs to listed as HND for him to get funding as they usually expect progression. Is he set on the 2nd HNC? Would he not consider degree immediately after first HNC. That way he could start in year 1 of the degree.

Just realised BIL has said different things on different days. I would ask SAAS/college.
