Hi all, any idea for the reason to appeal for a place in the primary school in own school catchment zone? Thanks.

Why would you need to appeal if in catchment?

KT430 · 30/05/2022 15:28

The school is full capacity

I think appeals are then based on how far a child lives from the school and whether they already have a brother or sister at the school?

JamMakingWannaBe · 30/05/2022 20:41

Is this for P1 entry?

grannycab · 30/05/2022 20:43

If the school is full your child will be placed at a nearby school, but they should pay for transport I would think.

Thanks all for the comments. Any successful case sharing?

What Council area

How many places are they short? This happened at my local primary about 10 years ago, they offered the affected parents their pick of alternative schools. However, the parent council successfully campaigned for a temporary classroom (portakabin) which they were able to install over the summer holidays and eventually the school capacity was increased. Maybe worth approaching your councillors/msps/mp.?

Thanks BinBandit.

Have you just moved to the catchment? If you're in the Glasgow area I can probably help!

KT430 · 01/06/2022 03:52

Thanks ThisBooksCanDo. I am going to move to Edinburgh.

When will you move? If you don't already live in the area/house, they can't offer a space until you actually live there.

If it's a popular school they may have reserved places for people who move into the catchment area after the cut off date.

ScottishBeeswax · 01/06/2022 08:28

@KT430 do you already own/rent the property? You can't apply for school place until you've actually got proof of address.

If there's no spaces your child will be put on waiting list and offered a place in another school until place becomes available. There can be quite a bit of movement between now and august though.
What year is it for?
