Hello,

I have a shortfall with rent, and the UC payment have taken an extra £45 out my monthly payment due to that. The council have also set up a discretionary housing payment for me. Should the Dwp still be taking £45 out my account? The council were terrible in regards to trying to explain this to me! Thanks :)

Your message is pretty vague so hard to answer. There is a group called universal credit survival on FB where you can post anonymously and there are benefits experts who answer.

Is the £45 took from your UC as “benefit cap”?

oviraptor21 · 21/05/2022 19:38

The £45 is presumably due to rent arrears.
Has the DHP cleared your rent arrears or is it to help make ongoing payments or both?

If the rent arrears are cleared by the DHP and you have no other deductions then you shouldn't be losing that £45. You may need to check the dates when the DHP was awarded and compare with your UC assessment period.

Your landlord need to cancel the arrears payment or your council needs to pay your DHP directly to yourself.
