Call 111 and get an out of hours appointment.

Ringworm is a fungal infection so antibiotics aren’t usually indicated unless there’s a secondary bacterial infection.

What cream did you have and how long have you used it for?

ArtetasSmoothBallsack · 03/05/2022 21:18

I didn't think antibiotics would do anything with ringworm because it's a fungal infection?

hellrabbitishere · 03/05/2022 21:19

as far as i know antibiotics are for bacterial infections and ringworm is fungal so i may be wrong , but i doubt a gp will give them to him . i had ringworm once caught from my guinea pigs who had already been treated and my gp prescribed terbinifine cream

SouperNoodle · 03/05/2022 21:19

Antibiotics won't do anything. Go back to the pharmacy and ask for different anti-fungal cream

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 03/05/2022 21:20

Yep, as PP's have pointed out, ringworm is a fungal infection. Can you make a non-emergency appointment for a few weeks away?

It will probably have gone by then!

How long have you been using the cream?

It's a fungal infection. Wash everything between uses and make sure they aren't touching it and spreading it.

His brother had it ages ago and the only thing that helped was antibiotics

Do 111 prescribe as well@WeAreTheHeroes

Ringworm can take a while to clear up. Its fungal not bacterial so antibiotics won't help

dementedpixie · 03/05/2022 21:29

It wasn't ringworm then if antibiotics helped
What cream are you using and how long has it been used?

HiCandles · 03/05/2022 21:30

Why would he need antibiotics for a fungal infection? Try a different antifungal cream from the pharmacist and make sure he's not touching it then other parts of skin.
If you need a GP appt for diagnosis if not sure it is actually ringworm, try every avenue for an appointment eg econsult, Livi app, 111.

MissMaple82 · 03/05/2022 21:31

There's no way you'd of been given antibiotics for ringworm. For a start it's fungal. How long have you been using the cream? Why can't you get an appointment?

It may well have been simply coincidental that it cleared up if he was taking anti biotics at the same time. What were the anti biotics for?

Reallyreallyborednow · 03/05/2022 21:34

more likely the cream took effect as he started the antibiotics. That or it wasn’t ringworm.

possibly impetigo?

go back to the pharmacist.
