Hillfoots (Tillicoultry, Alva, etc)

Would anyone be able to give me a good idea of what these areas are actually like? Other than brief house viewings, I've no experience. Particularly looking at living in Tilly so interested to know about Tillicoultry Primary and Alva Academy as the schools for DC, and just how the area is to live in generally.

The houses looked very mixed - on the one street having both fancy and more run down looking houses in some cases. I'm not wanting to jump to conclusions that the run down houses are necessarily "bad" or that crime rates would be higher, etc. if that's not the case.

The pros so far are the stunning views, and lower house prices, and the cons that we'd be a bit further out from everything than we'd hoped (no train station, etc). Wondering what other pros and cons to add to the list!

Adding Menstrie into the mix as well actually, and anywhere else further along - if we're looking in that area then might as well look at them all!

Hillfoots villages are quite mixed, but I've got friends happily living in all of them. Alva Academy has a very mixed intake, but the new (ish) building is great, and my kids did very well there, and have fond memories of the school. Dollar is another village to add to your list.

Thank you! Is there much trouble with bullying, crime, anything like that? Or is it all very safe?

Anyone? More houses have come up in Menstrie and other villages this week but we're still not 100% sure on the area and primary schools.

Watch out for flooding/ flood risk in Menstrie. There is a burn that used to flood quite frequently in the past. Also parts of Alva by the burn. But we lived in Alva, no children, but a nice wee village with some community if you were happy to get involved. Some good areas, some not so good, but no sprawling ghettos.

Good to know - thanks!
