Is this the new estate beside the motorway? Is that classed as Robroyston? Sorry no idea of any of the schools in the area

Aliya107 · 29/03/2022 18:54

Yes that’s right

Smithycroft is in Easterhouse and a high proportion of pupils are from deprived backgrounds. St Philomenas is similar.

Thanks @ScotsLass1.Would you know what other schools would be good in and around that area.I know Bishopbriggs is the nearby location but not sure if they take placing requests both for primary and secondary.Bishopbriggs Academy doesn’t seem to take any placing requests as well in secondary school prospective.

I certainly don't think you can rely on getting a placing request to Bishopbriggs high school
My advice would be to get into the catchment area of a secondary you are happy with
That's probably not going to be in Glasgow

Aliya107 · 30/03/2022 19:14

I fully agree @user1487194234 :(
Don’t seem to find any decent school in this area

Unless you've got musical aptitude enough to get into the Douglas Academy music thingy (national) there are very few placing requests accepted into East Dunbartonshire schools. Especially Bishopbriggs given its reputation.

ScotsLass1 · 30/03/2022 19:22

Yes unfortunately you're not going to be able to get a placement request for East Dunbartonshire as Robroystom comes under Glasgow. Have you bought or are you renting?

PlantyPotts · 30/03/2022 19:23

Smithycroft is not in Easterhouse. It's in Riddrie. Yes there are high numbers of depravation but it's a small school with good pupil support. Extra curriculars etc are all really good.

You will not in a million years get a placement request in to Bishopbriggs Academy. Turnbull High is less over subscribed and a very good school.

I have been planning to buy a property that I really like. But now am unsure seeing the schooling option there as that’s an imp aspect to us.Getting a house in Bishopbriggs/Bearsden side is also looks impossible looking at the spike in house rates

If you don't mind being rural then Lennoxtown is really good value for money and is in catchment for an ED high school.

St Philomena's is a lovely school. Fantastic, dedicated staff and a real commitment to fostering good relationships with their pupils. I've worked in many schools in that area and just because they're in "deprived" areas does not automatically mean they are rubbish schools. Presumably it's where your children's neighbourhood friends will be going to school - placing them in another authority or miles away can mean they struggle with friendships - far away at the weekend to poo to a pals house for a few hours at short notice, out of the loop (and even holiday schedule) for the kids next door.
