Advanced Highers deadline crisis!

DD is doing English and modern languages AHs and has been told that all 3 dissertations have to be sent off to SQA tomorrow (Monday). She is very worried about the amount of work still needed on these and that she simply can't fit it in on one day. Does anyone know what the actual SQA deadlines for receipt of the dissertations is?
And how strict is SQA on wordcount (going over or under by a couple of hundred words)?

I’m not sure about English although thought it was uplifted on exam day. For Modern Languages the SQA uplift is April 26th but there will be an internal school deadline to allow for marking, moderating, packaging etc. We have to hand them to SQA coordinator 3-4 days before the deadline. You are penalised if you go more than 10% over for Modern Languages.

Thanks for this. Can I ask when you (at your school) require the pupils to hand the dissertations in by? I'm just trying to work out how bad it would be if DD handed one of the dissertations in a couple of days late. It's very important to her that she get the best grades she can, as she has a university place conditional on top AH grades. It's not really an excuse, but she's just had 10 days of isolation in her bedroom with Covid which meant a few days of illness and more days of being very demoralised and not realising that the deadline was so soon. This hasn't helped at all.

I’m sure they will understand given she’s been off. That’s probably one reason for the early deadline - to allow anyone isolating to still have time to do it. We’ve asked for ours for this coming Friday but will accept additional changes made over Spring Break classes too if necessary.

Thank you v much. I've passed this on to her.

She'll need to ascertain whether they're actually getting sent off tomorrow or is that just a school deadline. In the school where I work, a parental phone call to the head of year would be the most effective route to that information.

I'd be surprised, in any case, if the school deadline is the actually 'sent to the SQA' deadline. We generally make the school deadline a week or more in advance to allow for last minute glitches.

Thank you for this. I am leaving her to it and hoping for the best now.
