ResilienceWanker · 24/03/2022 18:46

Grin Thanks dancemom!

I admire your optimism that the SG isn't going to do a massive u-turn on testing/ reporting... Mid April seems a long time away yet Wink

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 24/03/2022 18:48

Yay retirement
[I was thinking a rather dapper pocket watch so Dancemom could swan about showing people - as they doff their caps obviously 😆]

mapleleavesreturn · 24/03/2022 19:03

Thanks, dancemom - you've been a reassuring constant 🙂

Scottishskifun · 25/03/2022 08:57

I love your optimism!
I would say we could make bonfires and have a ceremonial burning of lft on that day but plastic smoke is pretty hideous 😂 maybe a bonfire of SG covid pamphlets instead!

dancemom · 25/03/2022 16:00

• 10,100 new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 41 new reported deaths of people who have tested positive
• 28 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 2,326 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 4,341,965 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 4,089,894 have received their second dose, and have 3,446,630 received a third dose or booster

So Scotland leading the UK in COVID prevalence again this week (well, up until Sunday anyway). This must surely be about to peak though, as we can't go on with 10% of the population infected indefinitely - the virus will run out of susceptible people. Either way, this isn't exactly screaming 'masks work' by anyone's standards!

The scientist in me is very interested to see whether England and Wales also get to our kind of prevalence as BA.2 works through (I think it's established all over the UK now). I wouldn't be surprised if the English peak in particular was lower because of a higher level of hybrid immunity in the community, which is likely to be more useful against omicron, and perhaps better general health.

ResilienceWanker · 25/03/2022 20:23

Yes, they said it was something like 1 in 11 people at the moment, which is crazy! And 1 in 9 in Lanarkshire NHS board...

I think your theory may be right. If you look at the weekly case numbers, Scotland now seems to be levelling off and possibly decreasing, and Wales and England seem to have started levelling off too, albeit at lower levels. Not sure where this leaves the mask review next week... I'm hoping that the fact it's not increasing any more is a good sign, but I'm afraid my money is on "cases are still high, so just another two weeks"... Especially as they have already said schools will have to keep wearing them til summer.

I have no idea which way they'll go on masks, but even some of Scotland's previous cheerleaders are starting to notice our levels and people are starting to openly wonder if they might actually be making things worse. I'm hoping they (the SG) look at the plateauing and use this to argue that we can relax a bit, maybe making up some bullshit about how our 'protections' have led to the plateau like they have in the past.

It's interesting though, because I know of two businesses now who have published timelines for restrictions going, and both have masks going on the 18th April. It made me wonder if there's something in the advice to business which actually states that masks will be in guidance only at that point. I do feel for the teachers and pupils who will be wearing them indefinitely because 'of course schools will follow the guidance'.

mibbelucieachwell · 25/03/2022 21:34

Either way the mask thing is hilarious. Either they'll be removed as a legal requirement close to the peak of cases or, at close to the peak of cases they'll be legally required because they supposedly keep the number of cases down. GrinGrinGrinGrin

Scottishskifun · 25/03/2022 23:58

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us think your right, England saw peaks with delta but not to Scotlands levels either. I find it very ironic with all our "protections" the levels are high and shoes they don't do shit!

It's also gone quiet on Scotnet for support of the measures and I think this reflects public opinion more and more are going these things don't seem to be working...... because they dont against a highly transmissible virus......

dancemom · 28/03/2022 15:53

Icu numbers dropping Smile

ResilienceWanker · 29/03/2022 20:11

Yes, that's good. It's looking more and more that cases in Scotland peaked about a fortnight ago, and the rest of the UK a week or so later (fingers crossed). So hopefully hospitalisations and ICU will start to come down more quickly as cases in the community decrease and we work our way out of the 2 week lag between infection and "because of covid" hospitalisations (if that still exists?! I've kind of lost track of the progress of the disease in our triple-vaxxed world... ).

DPs have finally been called for their "spring booster" too, so hopefully if that programme gets rolling quickly, there will be fewer older people with longer stays and generally worse outcomes...

Itsbackagain · 29/03/2022 21:54

MIL (previously one of the 29 people in intensive care with recently confirmed Covid-19. She caught it in ICU, she didn't have it before she went in ...............) recovered and sent home (still testing positive for covid but allowed to be wheeled right through Forth Valley Royal Hospital) . FIL caught it from her (there's a surprise) had 2 days ill but is absolutely fine how. In their 80's so all good :)

patritus · 29/03/2022 22:27
