Old/new style LFTs question

I've noticed that anywhere I would normally pick up lateral flow tests now only has the older type tests, the mouth and nose ones.
I'm just wondering is this the same across the country? The newer ones were so much easier to use with children and I'd heard they were better at picking up omicron too.

The recent ones being given out in my local asda were the orient gene ones. I've also seen tests in my local sports centre and one day last week it was the old nose and throat ones but the rest of the time it's been orient gene.

You can just swab both nostrils with the nose/throat ones rather than doing nose and throat.

Thanks, Demented, I think I will just do that for the dcs then - it just doesn't feel quite "proper" if you know what I mean!
Doing the throat ones (I need them for work) is such a pain, you can't have eaten or drunk anything for half an hour and then need to wait half an hour for the result.. much prefer the newer ones!

It says in the instructions that you can swab just the nostrils. Think it's under the testing a child bit

The throat and nose ones appear to be more accurate. I have both and out of curiosity while isolating did both after hearing stories of the nose ones not being the best. Very clear strong positives on the nose and throat ones, all negatives on the just nose ones.

PCR confirmed positive as did the symptoms

That's very interesting, thank you.
I hope you're feeling better now.
Not much point me worrying about it since I can't get hold of the other ones anyway! (Unless someone comes on to say they're available in a Boots in Aberdour, or something Grin)

Thankfully fine now, just congestion. It was a long 9days before 2 negative LFTs

You can use the nasal ones on your throat too, it's just a bit more difficult if you have the short stick ones.

I used a nasal only swab on DD and it was negative. I wasn't convinced so did a nasal and throat one and it was positive. I don't think the nasal only ones pick up covid as early as the throat ones do.

yep - been trying to get some extras to stock up and both the postal ones and the ones from pharmacy have been the older style ones (blue box) although i did get a couple of green ones they were handing out in a supermarket.
