George Watson's P1 entry

Another Edinburgh school thread. Sorry. My child has sat an assessment for entry into P1 (essentially just a chat with a school teacher). We should hear whether they will receive an offer shortly but I am now panicking that I've put all their eggs in one basket and should have applied to other private schools to increase the odds. Does anyone know how over-subscribed/competitive P1 entry at GWC is? Its very, very late to be seeking admission elsewhere...... Thanks!

My daughter also took the assessment and I am also waiting for the results. We also attended p1 assessment for GH and Edinburgh academy. I remember the results will be sent to us on Feb 3rd. GWC and GH are both quite popular and we are also worried we might not be offered a place.

Oh dear what a shame they may not be offered a place. They might just have to slum it a state school which could be the best thing for them!

There are specific health issues that make this particular school preferable. Thanks for your helpful contribution.

Unfortunately only received a place on the waiting list for Watson's. Not sure how likely that is to translate into a place, or when (or whether this is a 'polite rejection').

I don’t have any direct experience of GW but I can say there’s usually always a but of ‘churn’ once P1 places are allocated, so don’t lose hope. Do they tell you roughly where you are on the waiting list?

Hi, sorry to hear that you DC is on WL. we received the offer from GWC and GH this morning, and we are highly likely to go with GH. I guess there are also other people who have more than one offer and there will be place available.

Lilian2021. Glad your DC got their offers! I guess we will have to wait and see. We did apply late and ours was excited by the assessment so probably not at their 'best' on the day!

Charliesgotachocolatefactory. No sense of 'where' on a waiting list and I understand acceptances are quite fluid. I will enquire.
