Will it ever end?

I spent half term in England, and it was unexpectedly wonderful to have basically no masks anywhere.

It's really broken me for surviving another six months of Sturgeon's completely unjustified caution on absolutely everything.

readsalotgirl63 · 09/02/2022 18:37

Isn't there a petition against this that we could sign ? I feel I should write to my maps but I think I've lost the ability to string together a coherent sentence

Truly, do not waste your time writing to your MSP if they are one of the gang.
LizzieMacQueen · 09/02/2022 19:13

They said they would publish their recovery plan on the 28 Feb didn't they?

Pootle40 · 09/02/2022 19:21

My son has been at high school six months. I have never given him a LFT test. He had a mild sore throat this morning, painkiller and off to school. Same as always. If he was unwell I'd keep him off.

Also off to Newcastle feb hols.

Ditched the mask weeks ago.

As a family we are back to normal and my son frequently ditches mask in school as much as possible.

2022HereWeCome · 09/02/2022 20:12

I wrote to both my MSP (SNP) and the children's commissioner in 2020 when the masks for anyone over 5 came in here and it was over 11 in england, not in schools initially asking for evidence and justification etc.

I explained how much it was affecting his confidence / glasses steaming up / more accidents / not wanting to go anywhere and asked them to consider other harms and frankly neither of them cared. I have tried very hard to raise issues about children and young people's rights which have been bottom of the pile since the very start. I can never forgive the SNP for that nor the useless opposition who have challenged on nothing until very recently.

WouldBeGood · 09/02/2022 20:39

Yep. I’ve written to all my MSPs, the SG, Director of Education: makes no odds. The SNP just have a style letter as decreed by on high. They do not give a shit.

I actually feel so depressed at this another 6 months announcement. Like fuck off. Watching people in England on Twitter campaign. We don't have that here there is no big stars with a following that will take a stand it sucks

Scianel · 09/02/2022 21:18

There's Neil Oliver?

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/02/2022 21:36

That's true @Scianel is he not waved off as a crackpot though? We have just had covid I'm keeping my youngest off till after half term. She's testing negative but had a dodgy stomach etc. partner still testing positive so that is a real infection.

I don't have an issue with being sensible but masks and booking for swimming or not being allowed in the school playground need to go. I was actually shouted at by a parent today because my oldest is still in school. Negative tests and I'm now allowed out. I won't lie I did lose my shit but why do people think they can question you.

Urgh

I know what you mean. It's the contrast that gets me. The headlines are all how England is on the verge of dropping their last remaining restrictions and getting back to normal, while up here we have JL doom-mongering and the SG giving itself powers for another 6 months (which will be into autumn again, and as per the infection cycle rising cases and so it will be another 6 months after that ad infinitum). I'm already seeing people commenting about how us poor sods up here are stuck in limbo with restrictions indefinitely so spare a thought for us while you enjoy your 'freedom'.
WouldBeGood · 09/02/2022 21:50

It’s quite anxiety making. I just can’t believe they’re going on with this. Especially the frigging masks

Re Neil Oliver I suppose one man's crackpot is another man's hero Grin

He's very anti independence which obviously earns him a lot of hate from some quarters.

OnceUponAWhine · 09/02/2022 22:36

Neil Oliver isn’t a crackpot at all! Watch some of his videos where he is absolutely spot on about the current state of Scotland. He also has school-age children, so really understands the impacts of this on family life. I really feel grateful he’s willing to stick his neck out and be brutally honest. Having him speak out nationally, as a local to us, somewhat cancels out the fact that Alyn Smith is our prat of an MP

WouldBeGood · 09/02/2022 22:41

I think the problem for Neil Oliver is that he was talking sense on this at a point in time where to do so was to be called a covid denying granny killing crank.

Like it’s now clear that Ivor Cummins was correct that nothing stops the virus: the waves come and go. But he’s been vilified.

OP posts:
Scianel · 09/02/2022 22:59

Oh yes Ivor Cummings has been painted as an absolute crank, as have the GBD scientists. Yet the iSage lunatics are somehow okay in polite society.

Lockdownbear · 09/02/2022 23:08

Ivor Cummings is that the guy who did the YouTube videos repeating that lockdowns don't work, and we're never part of WHO pandemic planning?

Radyward · 10/02/2022 08:00

Ok im in Ireland. I nearly went mad putting a mask on my 9 yr old in Nov at nearly 2 years into it but masks for over 5 is intolerable. What !!both my kid s have suffered sociallly and emotionally due to restrictions. We have had the longest LD in europe but sturgeon to try and extend by 6 months is disgusting. The poor kids in school. There are inklings here that masks in school will be shortlived ( hopefully ) as parents so up in arms initially..sturgeon is such a dictator using C to show she doesnt follow England. Devolution is completely stupid . We were in london in Octiber and loved the freedom.i dont mind restrictions once they leave kids alone but no the govt in ireland just had to bend to the teacher unions. Its sooo depressing. Im just hoping masks go in school in feb id be fuming if it was to be extended by 6 months. Scotland isint looking like a nice weekend destination just like Nz is a no go! What is she playing at !!!

WouldBeGood · 10/02/2022 08:06

That’s the one, @Lockdownbear

Hi @Radyward it’s interesting to see how Scotland is viewed- not good! I do hope they stop masking children in Ireland too. It’s bonkers

Railing at DD (S3) school today.

One min they tell her she can drop Geography for History for S4, the next they say she can't. Different teachers are telling her different things.

She's also stressing about her report card that's coming out soon. She's worried the report card will recommend N4 instead of N5 for some subjects, even though she's been consistently N5 in all her test results so far.

Really quite worried about her MH at the moment what with options, report card and the maths S3 assessment this week Sad

WouldBeGood · 10/02/2022 08:47

Oh, that does sound stressful @heelforheelandtoefortoe. Poor DD, and you.

Is there any way you could speak to her guidance teacher, maybe?

OP posts:
heelforheelandtoefortoe · 10/02/2022 09:09

Yes I've told DH to call to see if we can get an appointment about it.

WouldBeGood · 10/02/2022 09:15

Hope you get some answers @heelforheelandtoefortoe

Stressing driving too school, the bus in front has a ad on its bum.
Woman, chilling, coffee in hand, dog in the other, and a slogan about ditching the car & setting your own timetable - wtf!

Seriously people drive and get buses because they need to be places, school, work, nursery etc etc, not for the sheer hell of drive, or chilling out
