Edinburgh city break

Just a quick question:

We're off for an Edinburgh city break in a couple of weeks. 😊

I've booked a couple of day time activities, but do restaurants have to be booked in advance for weekend evenings due to social distancing?

Thanks!

Depending on where you want to go, I would definitely recommend booking.

I'd definitely book for Friday and Saturday evening, we went out for a steak dinner to celebrate DHs birthday last night and the restaurant was heaving.
What type of food/price bracket do you like and we can give some suggestions?

Aurea · 16/01/2022 09:26

Ooh. Thanks.

I don't really get out much, so I'm not really sure. We both (me and DH) love food and are not fussy. We are staying near Waverley but we have a couple of ghost tours booked 😁 so it'd need to be somewhere round there.

Not mega expensive (no budget really though) and not super posh (we may be wearing jeans, etc).

Thanks!

Not been for a while, but monteiths just off the high Street used to be fab.

Well, I've just had a look and hardly anywhere has tables. 😩

I've managed to book somewhere called Hanams (Kurdish) near to where we want to be (Grassmarket) on the Saturday night. Anyone been there? Hope it's good......

There's another place I'd like to try on the Friday but they are full for bookings but also do walk ins. It's Makars Gourmet Mash bar. Anyone been there? Is a walk-in on a Friday night realistic?

Thanks again.

Hanams is really good. Not been to Makars but it gets good reviews. I haven't too many recommendations round that end of town I'm afraid.

Great rookie. Thanks Smile

I see some more restaurants have opened up tables since the announcement yesterday.

I managed to book a table at Michael's on Eyre Place for Friday night. Has anyone been?

I haven’t been to Michael’s but I have been to the chef’s previous restaurant (Michael Neave’s) previous restaurant- it shut during the first lockdown. It was a huge favourite of mine! Lovely food and atmosphere and really reasonable. Eyre Place is a little bit of a trek but about 25 mins on foot from Princes Street or ten minutes by bus.

Michael's is our new favourite, we loved The Whisky Bar and were so sad to see it shut. We're back again in a few weeks for DD4's 18. New Chapter next door is good too. Well worth the wee walk great value for money.

Thanks guys.

It looks like I have inadvertently picked a good one. Smile
