Edinburgh private school entry options

Looking to move DS from his current state school to a private school, having taken part in one of the assessments this week which DS didn't think went well, I'm now stressing about him not getting an offer from any - what happens in this scenario, are there waiting lists? Can you apply for mid year entry? TIA

It depends on the school and the stage of entry. Was this for S1 entry in august?

With most Edinburgh schools if the child doesn't meet the required standard on the test they will receive a rejection letter. If child meets the required standard but there are insufficient places available then they will ask if you want to go on waiting list. There is always a fair amount of movement in the private sector so places often become available for those on waiting list.

If he doesn't get in to preferred school you can certainly reapply depending on the stage of schooling he's at, or you can contact other schools to see where may still have places.
I know 2 children who applied for P6 entry to ESMS and didn't pass the entrance exam but got detailed feedback of areas they needed to work on and both were successful at getting in at S1.

Some schools are stricter with academic requirements than others. If you can mention the schools someone may be able to advise.
