Scotsnet exams thread 2022

I haven't seen a thread for this years exams yet so thought I'd get the ball rolling (hopefully not too early!). Who has dc sitting exams this year and how are they getting on with their prelims so far?

ds(17) is in S6, he is sitting

Maths AH
Physics AH
Geography H (crash)
PE H (sat 2 years ago at NAT5)

They had their prelims in December which was good as they could relax over Christmas. He has had results back for 3 - will start with the good - Physics AH 70% 😀, then the no so good - Maths AH 45%, PE H 42% 😮.

He is very pleased with Physics, as he didn't expect it. The others he expected but seeing it has still been a shock. Hopefully in a good way and he will get his finger out as he hasn't been applying himself this year due recent first car freedom 🚗 + first girlfriend since he was 14 👫 + out together in said car 💏 + finally started his teenage rebelling phase 🙄.

Did anyone find it was similar in S6 with their teens? I think he is just scunnered this year with school and going through the whole studying and exam process for a 3rd year running. Many of his friends seem to feel the same this year.

We’ve got 2As, 4Bs and a C at Nat5. DD is dyslexic and got an A in English so we’re delighted. DD1 is waiting for the post.

Fantastic!

A, 3 Bs and 2 Cs at Nat5 here. Ds is a bit sad about one of the Cs, but that's outweighed by his joy at a B in French. He thought he'd failed that one. He's scheduled to do Highers in the 2 subjects he got a C in so I'm not sure how that will go.

I'm so happy for him. Such a relief seeing him come out of his room smiling.

Hope everyone else is feeling okay today too, especially those parents waiting for the post, or for their kids to get out of bed!

Charmanderchick · 09/08/2022 10:01

5 a and 2 b for my dd at national 5, I’m thrilled but she’s pretty devastating been predicted straight A.
well done everyone, what a relief to finally get that text!

dancemom · 09/08/2022 10:03

4As and B for dds highers, she's delighted as her prelims were A, B, B, C and D. Very happy household here

SayYouDontMind · 09/08/2022 10:25

Congrats to your DC Lovinglife and Awayyego fantastic results.

We got good news too with 3 Advanced Highers and another Higher to add to last years.

If you'd have asked us whether we would be in this position when he started S3 I wouldn't have believed you.

Good luck to all those waiting for the postman!

Threeboysandadog · 09/08/2022 10:52

6 A’s and 2 B’s in N5’s here. Ds3 is at work until 5:30pm but txt me his results. He hasn’t commented on it and I know he had hoped for 8 A’s as predicted so he might be disappointed but I’m delighted. He was diagnosed with ASD between the prelims and the actual exams and was waiting for an MRI for other issues so had a lot going on.

Congratulations to all our young folk on their hard work and good results.

Neither of my older two went to university straight from school. Ds1 went to college to do some more Highers and ds2 worked in retail for two years as he was undecided which path to take. Both now have their degrees and good jobs. There are so many options available for them all now.

PrincessRamone · 09/08/2022 11:45

Congratulations to everyone’s DC 👏

6As here for N5 so delighted. It does make me wonder what he could have got if he’d been put forward for the right subjects, but there’s time to sort that out at a new school this year for Highers.

Does anyone know how we get the bandings? The new school want to know them.

beachcitygirl · 09/08/2022 12:22

4A's & a B for highers here. Proud household, dd devastated with the B & plans to appeal. She's hard on herself. Everyone in her class got a B in the higher drama.

Ha, that was exactly me 20 years ago. I hope she gets her A.

WeAllHaveWings · 09/08/2022 13:03

Congratulations to everyone on their great results 🎉and hope anyone who didn't get what they expected either manages to appeal or it is enough to get them to their next stage.

S6 ds got A's for his crash Higher Geography and Higher PE which was unexpected which gives him a running total of 7 As in Highers over S5/S6 😁

AH's as expected not so good. AH Physics C and AH Maths D and he has gone from not caring to a bit teary seeing them in black and white (or buff). AH Physics he was estimated a B so he will ask if he can put in an appeal to see if they will bump it up.

Every student in his AH Maths class had No Award except him and 1 other and they both got Ds. I've also changed now from unsympathetic to a little pissed off the school has let his whole AH maths class down - low progression school and he learnt his AH maths from a mostly absent teacher (she had been given too many classes) and scratchy pandemic recordings. But it is what it is now and doesn't impact going to uni.

DC wasn't really expecting to make their Oxbridge offer and we'd been working on Plan B, but they've made the offer. I have mixed feelings, as I really liked Plan B! They're happy though.

I think there is something going terribly wrong with these results, my child had his by text, email and then the certificate came in the post, they all had different results and his exam certificate doesn’t even have all of his subjects on it.
Along with two friends he has always been an A student in one particular subject, they have all been told they failed this subject, I just don’t believe that three students (that we know of) can have top results in all work in that subject for five years then not even scrape a pass.

Awayyego · 09/08/2022 13:53

Congratulations to everyone who has done well! DD1 has just got her certificate through with 5As at higher.

Gosh that’s very odd! Did you get through to the advice line?

Gosh, that’s upsetting for them. I’m sure it will be sorted out but not what you, or they, needed on results day.

neveradullmoment99 · 09/08/2022 14:46

4A's 2B's and one C [Nat 5] [ she hates Geography] All A's /B's in the subjects she is taking at highter level! Delighted:)
Hope everyone got the results they were hoping for :)

Awful. Hope you get it sorted out.
If they don't have the subject, does that not mean they didn't achieve a grade?
No idea how it could be different from the text unless they have muddled up people.

After speaking to the school potential there has been a mix up with dds Nat 5 art: got 86% for portfolio and 26 in exam despite always having a s in written work! I’m thinking the paper hasn’t even marked or part of it lost.
Has anyone else had issues with art Nat 5? School are hopeful it’s a clear appeal but are going to raise it with sqa

I can’t see them on the certificate, unless I am being particularly thick?

Cismyfatarse · 09/08/2022 19:17

Oh. Not sure then. I am a teacher but certification c9mes direct from SQA. My own kids (now 20/21) had it on their certificates. School has them as we receive results in Bands, and predict them that way.

You can only appeal, however, to change a grade, not change a band.

I’ll check with the school Smile

I could be that I actually am being thick.

iIt’s not for an appeal. His new school want to know the banding.

WeAllHaveWings · 09/08/2022 19:25

The certificates dont have bands, and they are not on My Sqa either. Only schools and maybe unis can see the bands.
