Is it a bank holiday today?

Yes, the 1st rolled on to Monday and the second rolled on to today

thickthighs73 · 04/01/2022 20:59

Surely a quick google would have been a less waste of time

Coffeeunicorn · 04/01/2022 21:49

Well that’s the thing. I did Google it and it isn’t clear. I thought it was a bank holiday. I didn’t turn up to work today and apparently I should have as it is not a bank holiday but as the response above suggests it’s not clear.

Well, it is technically but a lot of businesses go by the English bank holidays when it comes to days off.
Royal Mail weren't delivering today but lots of other places usually closed on bank holidays were open. Surely your work would have actually told you all what bank holidays they were taking.

Coffeeunicorn · 04/01/2022 21:52

I work in a bank and so thought I was off. No I wasn’t given an official list. Only told “we get bank holidays off”

Depends if the company goes by English or Scottish holidays as a lot of companies don't recognise the extra bank holiday in Scotland
dementedpixie · 04/01/2022 21:54

Surely they gave you a rota and told you which days you were due to work

AppleTangerine · 04/01/2022 21:54

There's a list on the Scottish government website. It's definitely a Scottish bank holiday but perhaps some banks stick to the English ones

Coffeeunicorn · 04/01/2022 21:55

Thanks, my mistake I should have checked. I just wondered if others assumed it was a bank holiday today too as my boss apparently didn’t think it was.

No I don’t work a rota. I work set days every week with bank holidays off.

Which bank is it?

Itsalmostanaccessory · 04/01/2022 22:07

Well, Banks go by the English bank holidays. Been like that for a long time now.

Nope I think it was pretty clear
EmmaC78 · 05/01/2022 00:01

It is a bank holiday today but I would have checked before finishing up for christmas if no written list was available.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/01/2022 00:23

Technically it is but I don't know many financial services firms that allocate it as a bank holiday nowadays. They should have directed you to the list. For reference it's usually the 1st Jan, 2 days at Easter, first and last Mondays in May, a Monday in late August, Christmas Day and boxing day. Obviously some change if they fall at a weekend and this year the late May day has been moved and given an extra for the queen's jubilee and those are the first Thursday and Friday in June.

Part of my team get the 2nd of January as their contract states they get all local holidays instead of telling them they get 8 fixed days. They argued their case and got the extra day.

Pootle40 · 05/01/2022 07:36

If it's a bank then the public holidays will be clear on their intranet in their holiday policy.

Itsalmostanaccessory · 05/01/2022 09:02

@thickthighs73

Not really. Not for the OP's purposes. Google will tell you it was a bank holiday. But her work's contract and intranet wont list it as included in the bank holidays. OP checked google and didnt check with her work.
Banks dont take Scottish bank holidays as standard.

Coffeeunicorn · 05/01/2022 09:26

@thickthighs73 I think the responses prove that it isn’t very clear. It is a bank holiday technically but not for my work purposes. I wanted to know if I was being completely dillusional for thinking it may have been a holiday but this thread has confirmed I am not. My mistake was not checking with my work not thinking it was a bank holiday (which it was). Thanks for replies.
