Anyone know Largs well?

All going well we’ll be moving to Largs in the next 12/18 months. Moving from not too far so we know the general area, transport links etc.

Hoping someone that lives in the town or knows it well might be able to give a bit more specifics about streets/areas that are particularly good for a growing family 😊 We live in a lovely village just now but neighbours are all much older than us (most are retired) and we would like to be somewhere where our toddlers can grow up with other kids and maybe we can make some other friends too.

Ideally we’d be looking for a 3/4 bed. Detached preferably but happy to be in a semi if the area works for us 😊

I dont live in Largs, though I know it well. If I were moving to the area, i'd opt for either West Kilbride or Seamill (both just outside of Largs). Hope homes recently completed building the Chapelton estate in Seamill. If you arent averse to new builds, its a lovely family estate, and literally a stones throw from the beautiful beaches over looking Arran. This one is under offer, but gives you an idea - its a very nice house obviously, but its average (believe it or not!) compared to others on the estate:

@GaolBhoAlba I know the estate you’re talking about 😊 there are some absolutely beautiful houses there! I know West Kilbride well and have family there. For various reasons it will be Largs rather than any of the surrounding towns and villages though 😊👍🏻

I live in Largs, DH grew up there, and we have returned from down south. Lovely town, great school, good community. Subscribe to the wee paper if you can.
Houses- either side of the Irvine road are lovely. Off Brisbane road past the fire station have some lovely places.
Avoid Nelson Street area or around the old school area.
Lots of clubs for children and you both if you like. Very active sailing cadets and no experience needed. Usual youth clubs, sprouts, BB, brownies etc.
Safe area, low crime nice places to visit nearby and enjoyable. Any more questions feel free to ask.

That’s amazing! Thank you 😊 we’ve been keeping an eye on what’s been for sale over the last few months while we get ourselves in a position to sell. Quite a few things in Noddleburn have come up? What’s that area like? It looks like a newer estate? Or are there lots of sales in that area because it’s not great?

I had seen quite a bit when researching about the Nelson St area and I am familiar with the old school area from visiting Largs over the years. I also assume roundabout the new school to be heavy with traffic?

Aww I love Largs! Always thought it would be great to live there. I don’t know the streets well enough to recommend anything but wishing you luck on your move and hope you enjoy your new home!

You mentioned the noddleburn area. As far as I know that area is absolutely lovely, the Glen estate is good and well established. No trouble. Another nice area is Stakehill 1970s wimpey development or Walkerston to the sout. Be aware if looking at next to the Noddleburn, but I don't recall it flooding. Lovely walks up the hills at the back, route burn public golf course.
Be aware that driving through largs in the summertime can be slow!
The middle area is good for walks to the seafront too, and the Swans.
If you are looking for a solicitor, Ron Minton at Low Beaton is our old family solicitor and very good.

@Trainbear thank you!! That’s great 😊 as I said, we’ve been keeping an eye on what’s been coming up for sale for a while to see what kind of houses are available. Stakehill is another area that I had looked into as a few came up for sale there last year that definitely matched what we’d be looking for 😊 if I remember rightly that was slightly further away from the school etc? But not by much from what I could see! Walkerston is another area we’d looked at but the houses I’ve seen sell there look a little smaller than we’d need? Most that I’ve seen seem to be 2 bed if I’m looking at the same area?

Thanks for the solicitor recommendation 😊 Hahaha, the traffic is well known to me, don’t worry! I’ve spent a lot of time in the town, I’m just not too familiar with the residential areas 😊
