Hi we are looking to relocate from the South Coast of England to Perthshire this year and we like the look of Dunning but we are wondering about Schools. Dunning primary looks perfect for now but I'm struggling to understand where the pupils go at secondary age? Is the Community School of Auchterarder a good school or will they need to travel into a Perth city school when they reach that stage. My children are currently 6 and 4 so not an immediate concern but want to make sure we have chosen a good location where our kids can access secondary schools when the time comes. Also interested in any views on Dunning as a place to live? Thank you!

I have no idea about the area, but the council website shows Auchterarder as the catchment high school. I did have to choose a random address but I'd presume that applies to the whole village.

Looks like Auchterarder. Don’t know the school myself but I’d be happier with mine there than Perth.

Community School of Auchterarder is the catchment. Good school, but it's an all-through.

Dunning is the same as other villages. Couple of good pubs, great tennis club. Because of proximity to A9 it's popular with commuters, so the mix of locals, incomers, commuters.

I'd live there

Dunning is a lovely wee town and the school is good. High school would be TCSoA - although it was catchment for mine, I wasn’t going to send them there.

There’s a huge bullying problem and although the new-ish head is keen to stamp it out - he told me in a timeframe of 5 years or so…

The high schools in Perth are hit and miss and the private schools not much better.

Some children there go to Strathallan or Morrisons.

We visited a friend in Dunning last summer on our way down the A9. Very sweet little village in beautiful surroundings. Her son goes to the Auchterarder high school and spoke very highly of it, although did mention that the previous head teacher, who was amazing according to her, was recently poached to head up a Perth school so they are going through a period of adjustment. She was still very happy with it. I believe the private alternatives would be Morrisons in Crieff or Strathallan/Glenalmond etc. I'm not from the area but doing research into schooling in this region at the moment.

We've actually just moved to Auchterarder, which is close to dunning. It's a beautiful part of the world, people are lovely, friendly, welcoming. The schools seem pretty decent so far, good luck with your choice.

Hi, did you end up moving to Dunning? We are planning on moving from Yorkshire and are looking at a similar area . Would love to hear your thoughts on the area and schools. X
