I suspect that as a great proportion of the population returns to work this week only to be back off next week to isolate due to someone else in the household had it will have such an impact on businesses that this will quickly be reversed and brought into alignment with England.

There will be something along the lines of more data being available, less deadly strain, but was right to be cautious, etc.

ecceromani · 02/01/2022 23:00

I think Scot Gov have intentionally not changed it during holiday period the way Ireland, France, Canada have done as they want to stop as many people as possible from making the most of their holidays socialising.
I expect we will go the same way as other countries once holidays are over in order to allow as many people as possible to go to work and keep the country running

ecceromani · 02/01/2022 23:04

Jeez @Groovee
Someone thinks it funny they ruined so many people's Christmas Angry
Good news your still negative, probably be fine now as incubation for omicron seems to be much shorter time

Groovee · 02/01/2022 23:23

Had a PCR this morning and it's negative. So my sore throat is more likely anxiety. Cannot believe I haven't caught it. The other 4 were positive.

Pootle40 · 02/01/2022 23:39

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar

When my son was wee he called the Premier Inn 'the night night moon hotel'.

I'm railing against him now being a very loud not quite so cute 10 year old Grin

My seven year old calls them the primary inn 😊
sweetkitty · 02/01/2022 23:59

I still don’t know why or how I have t caught covid, worked in a school where 60% of staff and pupils tested positive didn’t get it, spent days in a small room with positive children including some sitting on my knee and curled up with me because they were “hingy” and unwell next day positive. This was before omicron though, part of me wants to just get it, do my time at home and then get on with my life, if only it were that simple now?!

I would like to see the date on NS cautious stance and whether it’s made any real difference. I know London is swamped but their population density is far greater than the whole of Scotland so it’s not really like for like.

StarryEyeSurprise · 03/01/2022 08:36

@Groovee

I still have 25 hours isolation to go. Still testing negative. Dh is out of isolation. We've discovered the source who think it's funny they infected so many families.

I hate that Christmas was ruined again. And my poor mum was left all alone.

Horrendous 😪
Haudyourwheesht · 03/01/2022 09:21

I think she'll cut the isolation period today or tomorrow, tbh. A lot of schools go back in Wednesday.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/01/2022 09:23

Oh that's awful @Groovee - I'd be gutted if I had managed to give someone covid just before Christmas even if it had been completely unknowingly and unavoidable.

Selkiesarereal · 03/01/2022 09:27

ScotRail have announced a temporary timetable due to staff shortages so I can’t see full household isolation continuing much longer.

Also can’t get my head around someone being quite gleeful at infecting lots of people but maybe it will come back to haunt them.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/01/2022 09:27

I'm really hoping for a cut to the isolation period today. I've been railing this morning against JL's 'large gatherings could be banned until spring' that another poster has already shared I think. His job is to advise the government, not speculate about future govt policy which will have an impact on businesses that are involved in so called large gatherings. Completely inappropriate.

WouldBeGood · 03/01/2022 09:41

In good news, apparently cases are dropping off in England.

Also Record reporting that only 100 Scots have been treated in hospital because of Omicron; only one in intensive care. Obviously distressing for them and families, but very small numbers.

Surely she will have to sort the isolation thing?

JL is really appalling- once again no thought of the anxiety he causes with this stuff.

Scottishskifun · 03/01/2022 10:07

I think they will wait til the 5th and blame the bank holiday.......
It really isn't doing her any favours to be dragging her heels on this one!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 03/01/2022 10:29

Jason Leitch was on Twitter last night apparently quite upset at the (completely understandable) backlash he was getting after those comments. He indicated he was taken out of context, but the article quotes him in full. I really think they spend so much time in their own bubble being 'cautious' that they have somehow missed how completely sick and tired people in Scotland are of restrictions. We've had little let up for almost two years, much more than England who are no worse off for it, so you can't just casually suggest restrictions might persist for another 4 months while England continues life as normal and expect people to accept it!

And I have no idea why Sturgeon is dragging her feet on isolation rules when we already have services on an emergency footing because of them. Wasn't she supposed to be 'urgently' considering this like a week ago?? I think we define 'urgent' differently. It's like she's so paralysed with fear of doing the wrong thing that she is unable to act in appropriate ways.

WouldBeGood · 03/01/2022 10:44

I think she’s struggling to be honest. Which is a shame, but we could really do with good leadership now.

I saw JL’s protestations too @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us, but that’s what he said. Ridiculous.

rookiemere · 03/01/2022 10:52

JL needs to read his JD sharpish. When Chris Whitty et al in England are explaining things they are very clear that their brief is as medical advisors, not policy makers. Sometimes it's obvious that they're not altogether happy with the decisions that government take - at Christmas for example the UK medical advisors would have favoured a more cautious approach.

Here in Scotland it's impossible to know who's wagging the dogs tail ( if indeed that's the correct metaphor). SG don't seem to full grasp that what they are paid for is to take the medical advice and overlay that with all the other socioeconomic and societal factors.

In other news I've discovered that Ryanair is selling bargainacious flights to the Canaries at Feb half term. Tempted to give up on French ski trip and go for that instead as Spanish seem much less inclined to make things difficult for Brits as more reliant on our holiday trade. We had planned a trip to the Glasgow snowdome today, but I think I've become covid weary as I couldn't be bothered.

Erm, one in intensive care? One? Hmm
Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 03/01/2022 11:05

That's right @OnceUponAWhine, one omicron case in ICU and I think 91 in hospital across the whole of Scotland, according to reports from yesterday.

ecceromani · 03/01/2022 11:07

Erm, one in intensive care? One?
Where are they getting such precise numbers from? Have PHS published this?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 03/01/2022 11:09

Yes, PHS has collated data to 31st Dec @ecceromani

ecceromani · 03/01/2022 11:23

Ooh that's interesting thank you @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us
I had no idea they were publishing omicron specific figures.
If England are similar (no reason to believe they wouldn't be) then no wonder they said there was no basis to introduce restrictions at moment!

mibbelucieachwell · 03/01/2022 11:37

Unfortunately I think the very low numbers of confirmed omicron cases in hospital will be because whole genome sequencing used to confirm is only done on a small sample of cases. There are probably others.

Daily Record was reporting on the paltry amount of data made public by the SG compared with the UK government. Maddening. I notice they don't mention being "guided by the science" very much these days. Cos they're being guided by petty politics instead

WouldBeGood · 03/01/2022 11:42

They were saying that 80% of Scottish covid cases are now omicron I believe!

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 03/01/2022 11:51

Omicron has a different drop out on a PCR test so it shows up pretty quickly even without genome sequencing
