That’s good to hear @RaraRachael! Must be a big relief all round.

Haudyourwheesht · 02/01/2022 17:11

I'm assuming we'll open as normal. How can they not?

RaraRachael · 02/01/2022 17:23

Thanks WouldBeGood my worry was that he wouldn't be able to start treatment till Wednesday due to surgeries being closed again but I can't speak highly of our local NHS doctor and hospital.

I think schools will go back as normal but there will be a lot of staff absences and we will struggle to cover them. We've had about 5 staff isolating over the holidays and I suspect that will just be the start.

frasersmummy · 02/01/2022 17:43

At this stage I think most measures are just covid theatre

Masks do nothing,

10 days isolation for whole households just make sure that all household members pass it to each other as we are all confined in an enclosed space 24/7

the vaccines are not stopping the spread so why insist on 3 doses for people who are not vulnerable

You must get tested .. why.. if you are unwell stay home.. why do we need to be tested if we are not unwell

we have gone so far down this road that no politician is going to be brave enough to say .. right none of this is actually helping lets just get on with life.

They see case numbers going up and they think we cant be seen to be doing nothing
This is something ... lets do this .. as its better than doing nothing .. and no-one wants to say actually not sure it is better than doing nothing

Happy New Year railers one and all.

Surely NS is going to stop the madness that is (whole household) isolating at the very least. Are we the only country still doing 10 days isolation?
Lost track not watched much news over festive season.
We booked a few holidays this past week, if you have good insurance with covid cover it’s not a worry
Some very low cost flights around atm with a transferable clause to move them.
Hope all with covid are recovering well.
On happier positive news, we will be having an addition to our family in the summer. Our DD is expecting, they have had a few set backs now they have some great news, DD and SIL are so happy.

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2022 18:46

Oh, congratulations @Coquohvan, that’s lovely!

Ah fab news @Coquohvan

sweetkitty · 02/01/2022 19:31

Totally agree it’s all a nonsense now. Unless you have medical grade masks and are changing regularly they don’t do much. Still seeing idiot wearing them under their noses in Asda or those plastic visors.

The orthodontist drives me insane, you have to wait outside until they shout you, the receptionist locks the door, you sanitise when you go in and they take your temp, then you social distance. I got a huge row as I opened the door to hand DD2 out a set of keys, apparently you’re not allowed out the same door (!) even though I wasn’t going out the door. Then she made a big thing of spraying the door down. The joke is I could go sit beside her and have a drink in a pub. Oh and the other receptionists mask was below her nose.

ResilienceWanker · 02/01/2022 19:41

Awwww! What lovely news coquohvan! Congrats SmileFlowers

And HNY all! I'm very behind on the railing.

I'm v annoyed at the masks in schools thing. Why?! Do they even look at the data from here vs down south? What makes them think masks have been a massive success here? It really is a "being seen to be doing something" thing, ignoring all the negatives of masks in a learning environment, which really should be being given as much weight as any perceived miniscule benefit. Plus, NS isn't going to drop them now, ever, is she?!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/01/2022 19:59

"we have gone so far down this road that no politician is going to be brave enough to say .. right none of this is actually helping lets just get on with life." Absolutely @frasersmummy, the courageous politician now is the one who admits this is as far as we can reasonably go, and it's not worth trying to stop spread any longer.

On this note Jason Leitch has gone on record as suggesting that APRIL is too early to be reinstating mass gatherings in stark contrast to the UK govt who see no reason to restrict mass gatherings now!

This was my biggest fear when they started shutting things again purely because of high case numbers (no evidence of stress on hospitals) - how does Sturgeon then roll back on that? She's made a name on 'caution' even if most of her measures have proved ineffective in the grand scheme of things, but she's not the kind who likes to lose face and is more likely to double down on her strategy with the usual talk of 'difficult decisions' and 'keeping people safe'. COVID is here to stay and cases will never be zero, so at what point is it now OK to say 'OK, this is as far as we can go, we just have to accept it now'. So once again Scotland is facing several months of considerably stricter restrictions than England, which will almost certainly make no difference to the pandemic, because our glorious leaders can't be seen to lose face.

frasersmummy · 02/01/2022 20:00

aww @Coquohvan its lovely to hear some good news in between all our moaning

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2022 20:03

APRIL??!!!! 🤯

OP posts:

So if i get covid here, my whole household needs to isolate even if they are jagged to buggery?
How is that different to England?

ssd · 02/01/2022 20:17

And they isolate for 10 days even if their pcr is negative, is that correct??

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/01/2022 20:26

@ssd New UK guidance on COVID isolation says that COVID positive people can end self isolation after 7 days if they get a negative lateral flow test, while vaccinated household members and children are advised (but not required) to take regular lateral flow tests themselves (and isolate only if positive). Unvaccinated/vaccinated with one dose household contacts have to isolate for the 7 days.

In Scotland, the person testing positive and their entire household, irrespective of vaccination status, isolates for 10 days.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/01/2022 20:27

And yes, I believe in Scotland negative tests don't release you either. So overall likely to cause significantly more disruption than the English approach.

Scottishskifun · 02/01/2022 20:30

@ssd

Huge difference! England if a positive case and double vaccinated and negative PCR test then don't need to self isolate (should do daily lft with omicron to check) Person who tested positive if negative lft day 6 and 7 no longer need to isolate.

Scotland a positive case = Whole household locked in for 10 days

Tiredoftiers · 02/01/2022 20:35

Unless you work for the nhs in which case a negative pcr then daily lateral flows gets you out only to go to work, just not to stop in Tesco on the way home. If you’ve recently had covid, a negative lateral flow means back to work with daily lateral flows.

Scottishskifun · 02/01/2022 20:36

It's not just on the people who have to remain in their houses it's the massive knock on effect this has to the economy on the basis of Sturgeon being cautious. It can be seen everywhere!

It's not actually in law in Scotland for household contacts who aren't positive to isolate but SG have made damn sure it doesn't appear that way.

ssd · 02/01/2022 21:21

Christ. No wonder you're all going nuts. Seems well over the top.

Lockdownbear · 02/01/2022 21:40

The 10 days is completely OTT especially if others are negative.

People are scunnered and ultimately less people will willing test, especially if there are financial implications ie SSP instead of a proper wage, off work with "a bug" for a few days and back to work.

Scottishskifun · 02/01/2022 22:28

@ssd

Christ. No wonder you're all going nuts. Seems well over the top.
Yep! So far other then NS all UK nations have changed it so have Canada, USA, France, Ireland etc

Just NS saying it's too early caution etc etc. Amazing she can bring in stuff quick but not reverse them or back down!!!

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2022 22:33

I hadn’t realised the massive difference. It’s bonkers.

I genuinely can’t see how schools will function.

When did she last comment on this?

Groovee · 02/01/2022 22:54

I still have 25 hours isolation to go. Still testing negative. Dh is out of isolation. We've discovered the source who think it's funny they infected so many families.

I hate that Christmas was ruined again. And my poor mum was left all alone.
