Can anyone let me know what the science centre is like for little ones?

Dd is 4, and I'm looking for somewhere to take her next week before the schools go back. We wanted to try something different but not sure if she's a bit young for it.

Thanks!

It's great for all ages. I'm not sure what it's like in Covid times though.

I’ve not been since covid hit but age 4 is perfect for a lot of it - there’s an under 7 section which you can spend ages in and at that age they’ll enjoy the rest of it too. We used to have annual passports to it when mine were under school age.

It’s great. Much quieter too as they restrict numbers!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 29/12/2021 11:55

When we went in the summer the under 7s bit was closed due to restrictions, not sure if it would be open now with distancing back.

It's good anyway, tons of stuff to see and do.

It used to be one of our favourite places, but we decided not to go back until they fully open up the under 7s area as this is one of their favourite bits and we didn't want to have to deal with tantrums. At the time they weren't doing the shows either. There will still be lots of exhibits but I'd check how much you're actually allowed to do first to avoid disappointments. Might not be as much fun for younger ones if distancing is back either.

Yes it's great, we've been recently with our 3 year old... at that time (October i think) the play area was fully open, plus shows etc were running. There are also some new outdoor exhibits.

I took my 5yo in the summer and a lot of stuff for under 7s was closed. It's pretty expensive and I actually prefer the riverside museum

Haudyourwheesht · 29/12/2021 21:36

The under 7s bit was fully open during the October break. It closed a couple of times for cleaning but there were plenty of other things to do at those times. If you do go though, book a table for lunch in advance if you're hoping to use the cafe. We had to get takeaway and the foyer bit was chilly.

The water play section might not be open because covid, but take a spare top for your wee one just in case. Mine always got soaking!
Enjoy a lovely day out!

Glasgow Science Centre is amazing! We went the week before Christmas with a nearly 4 year old and a just turned 7 year old. Both were in tears when we left as they enjoyed it so much! Not too busy at all, you can pre book food and a table at the cafe when you book your tickets on the website. Definitely worth a visit.

FruitBadger · 30/12/2021 09:36

Water and sand play bits were both open Smile

HeCalledMeAddie · 30/12/2021 17:04

Thanks everyone, it sounds great. Think we will give it a try Smile
