Children turning 12 - do you get a covid vaccine appointment letter?

My DD is not eligible for the covid vaccine until January 2022. If your child turned 12 recently did you get an appointment letter for them or can you book one or do you have to go to a drop in? I can't find any information about this on NHS Inform.

We got a letter through recently- the appointment was about a month after my son’s birthday. I’m not sure if you can attend a drop in clinic before you get the letter in but you will definitely receive something in the post. You can also phone the helpline once your child has turned 12 and they should be able to tell you where and when your child’s appointment is.

My son was 12 6 weeks ago, nothing received yet.

I don’t think they would turn you away from a drop in. They want as many vaccinated as possible.

We had our son (almost 13) vaccinated at a drop-in clinic in September (a few days before he got his letter). We had no problem at all and there were quite a few parents with their kids waiting to have them vaccinated on that day.

The school organised them and then I got a letter telling us we could book

Same as Pootle40... DC turned 12 six weeks ago, no letter. However they also got Covid not long after so can't get the jag till January anyway now. I know loads of people with DC aged 12 to 15 in my area who haven't received a letter, but others who have. It's really odd!

Ours were carried out at school, got an email to say a consent form would be sent home for vaccination and it would be given the next day. That was Sept 28th and received an email on Tuesday to say the 16/17yos 2nd vaccine and any primary vaccine for new 12yos would be carried out this Friday at school.

Thanks everyone - sounds like it's a bit variable!

My DD turned 12 a week ago and I took her to a Drop in Clinic for hers this week.
Think we’ll probably still get a letter with an appointment as DD1 had hers also at Drop in but received a letter a couple of weeks later with an appointment.
We’re in Tayside.😊

You can definitely go to a drop-in - my daughter will be 13 next week and has had no letter and nothing from school. I took her to a drop-in the day after they opened vaccinations for this age group in September and it was easy, no letter or anything needed.

No letter here for just turned 12 year old. Hes just had covid so needs to wait now anyway

kirkandpetal · 04/12/2021 07:27

DD1 turned 12 end of Oct. not had a letter but we just went to the drop in center and got hers last week. Don't need anything except date of birth. It was very busy, noticeably with lots of teens in fact.

Rainbowshit · 04/12/2021 20:13

DD is 12. We took her to a drop in. The letter arrived a week or so later
