I'd rather not think about what goes on in kitchens! I'd never leave the house otherwise

ecceromani · 07/12/2021 15:54

The blethering has taken a fairly revolting twist this afternoonEnvy
Not what I was expecting when I checked inHmm

ssd · 07/12/2021 16:02

Oh toughen up @ecceromani Grin

I worked in a kitchen for 12 years, i seen all this and more. I try not to think about it when we're out getting dinner....

GrouchyKiwi · 07/12/2021 16:07

Your weekend plan sounds lovely shouldistop.

I'm making some hot fruit punch for our advent calendar today. It smells lovely, very Christmassy.

OnceUponAWhine · 07/12/2021 16:20

The brunch/breakfast at Dishoom is fab @shouldistop there’s also a lovely Loudon’s nearish to Waverley, so not far from Royal Mile- it’s down by the council buildings. Also, Fab place for Italian cocktails on Bread Street, easy walk from RM but I can’t remember the name of it as I type, so super helpfulHmm

shouldistop · 07/12/2021 16:21

@OnceUponAWhine that's funny, we're going to dishoom for lunch on the Friday!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 07/12/2021 18:43

Jeezo @ecceromani your kitchen is probably pristine, when are you having us all round? Grin

ecceromani · 07/12/2021 19:36

I could serve you all up a meal from the stuff I found dying in my fridge todayEnvy

shouldistop · 07/12/2021 19:57

@ecceromani ha that reminds me that I need to clean the fridge and oven sometime before Christmas

ElephantOfRisk · 07/12/2021 20:06

I'm not saying here that my fridge or oven are clean, but given the general disorganisation in my life currently, I have 3 areas that I manage to keep in order. 1. The fridge. I sort it and make sure everything is stacked in date order when I come home from the shops including apples etc - ditto the food cupboard in general. 2. The laundry. I clear the basket most days. 3. the inside of my car. Outside isn't always clean, but I keep the inside tidy and clean.

It's funny how you can cling on to a few things to keep the order in your life whereas others are abandoned to general life. Grin

It's the sock drawer for me, socks and ankle socks and tights all mixed up with pants and big mammy bras.
Does my head in, i love sorting it out.

shouldistop · 07/12/2021 20:15

@ElephantOfRisk haha I know what you mean. I'm always on top of the laundry, kitchen and hoovering. If they aren't done I feel really disorganised. The playroom and oven can be left for bloody ages though and I'll happily ignore them Grin

ElephantOfRisk · 07/12/2021 20:20

It's funny the wee elements of control that we have that just make life feel more manageable.

DH suggested that he could treat me to having my car valeted but we decided it would be a waste of money. I'm sure they would do a lovely job and that it would be better than it is now, but probably not noticeable to the normal eye. My friends laugh at me because my boot is always completely empty. I will need to pop my little winter kit in it soon though.

ElephantOfRisk · 07/12/2021 20:21

Oh and cutlery drawer all properly sorted, plastics cupboard and pans cupboard, a complete mess!

OP posts:
ssd · 07/12/2021 20:44

If i had my own car it would be like that @ElephantOfRisk. 4 of us share our car but it is still surprisingly clean. The boot however is a riot Angry

ElephantOfRisk · 07/12/2021 20:54

I'm now sharing mine with DS2 but he's not used it much and to be fair neither have I but we'll need it if and when I stop working at home and he gets some face to face stuff/gets a summer placement/gets a job.

DH has his new car and so far he's sticking with my suggestion that he just spends a few minutes a week keeping it nice unlike the last one. I got him a nice tidy for his boot but he still seems to have all sorts of "essential items" rubbish in it and he has replaced the carpet mats with rubber ones for the winter.

@shouldistop

We're getting the train through to Edinburgh Friday morning, dumping our bags at the hotel then a quick look round the Christmas markets. We have lunch booked for 1pm then drinks at a posh cocktail place at 3pm-4.30pm. We'll head back to the hotel then to have showers, get changed, fix make up or whatever then we have dinner booked at a pub type place at 7pm, they have live music so we'll stay there for the night. On Saturday late morning we'll go for brunch then get the train home. I really need to do my nails (no time for a salon visit), sort my eyebrows and maybe put some fake tan on but I'm better doing all of that on Thursday really. Wondering if I should dress up on Friday night? I have a really nice teal, velvet wrap dress I could wear. And maybe just a pinafore dress with tights and boots during the day? Then no idea what to take for Saturday morning brunch. Jeans and a nice top? Don't know if I have any nice tops!
Laila's on Cockburn St is lovely and a different take on brunch ( the Satay French Toast is divine)...
WouldBeGood · 07/12/2021 21:17

Satay French Toast..?

ssd · 07/12/2021 21:20

Is the grassmarket in Edinburgh nice for a wander, I've never been but fancy a day out.

WouldBeGood · 07/12/2021 21:23

It’s lovely @ssd and Victoria Street.

ElephantOfRisk · 07/12/2021 21:25

It's not a big area but lots of pubs and cafes and then you can head up either to greyfriars bobby or up victoria street to the high street or a complete loop.

Jump into google maps and have a wee wander to see if it's your sort of thing :)

I got married at the registrars (now shut) at the top of Victoria street.

I'll Google it all, thanks.

ElephantOfRisk · 07/12/2021 21:41

I think i've said this before, but I love strolling about in google maps. I like to go to the places featured or talked about in movies or programmes I like and see what it's actually like. Sad I know but everyone needs a hobby! Grin. When I was doing some family tree stuff, it was also nice to have a wander down streets where family lived.
