I love raw cauliflower with a dip

Tomorrowisanewday · 29/11/2021 21:21

What prettybird said (apart from the cauliflower rice) plus cauliflower cheese soup ( from the BBC Good Food website)

sweetkitty · 29/11/2021 23:18

I hate cauliflower with a passion. People think when your a vegan you automatically must love all vegetables but I don’t. Meat eaters don’t love all meat. I kept getting told to try Bang-Bang Cauliflower from Wagamama’s I did and it was vile (sorry to anyone who likes it). I would have kept it for the rabbits. Grin

So so cold here and I have to admit I have been closing windows in my classroom as I work in ASN and a lot of my wee guys have sensory needs and don’t wear jumpers etc and it’s too cold for just polo shirts and windows open.

I love cauliflower cheese, and im tempted to try the frozen cauliflower rice I've seen in the shops but wasn't sure if it would overpower the rest of your food?

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2021 09:03

I keep meaning to try that too @ssd but am not confident, though I love cauliflower

ElephantOfRisk · 30/11/2021 09:09

I can't do the texture of cauli rice but if you are having it with a strong curry, I doubt you'd taste it. I had curry with a base of shredded iceberg lettuce and it was surprisingly OK.

I've seen mixed reviews of frozen cauliflower rice, so have never tried it myself.

The key with the fresh blitzed cauliflower rice is using plenty of butter and not over cooking it. Plus adding flavouring that you like (think couscous) eg some fried onions, spices, pine nuts, whatever.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/11/2021 09:53

We bought cauliflower rice once but by the time we got home the entire car smelt like burnt corpse. We had to air the car, walked the rice straight into the garden and right in the bin.

ssd · 30/11/2021 11:55

Yes, i imagine it stinks Confused

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2021 12:32

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar 🤣🤣🤣 I think I’ll give it a miss

ssd · 30/11/2021 22:30

Is anyone here affected by the recent storm? I heard on the news people have been without power for 5 days Shock

ElephantOfRisk · 30/11/2021 22:33

Not me thankfully @ssd. Still 350 people out Callendar way with nothing and loads only got power back today or late yesterday. It will be awful and I'm sure none will still have any battery left to be on here anyway. They don't even have access to phone for 999 services!

Aurea · 30/11/2021 22:45

Round here in the north east we are badly affected. Our house is ok but many down the road aren't. We have a pal of my son's staying with us now whose home has been without power since Friday 4pm! Many also do not have water as the water is pumped using electricity.

Many people are stranded as the petrol pumps also need electricity to work. The local communities have been pulling together and helping those in need. No word of support from the Scottish government though.......

ElephantOfRisk · 30/11/2021 22:48

it's really terrible @Aurea glad to hear you are okay.

Maybe all the men need to put dresses on to get some funding or attention?

Grintrue @ElephantOfRisk

Thats an awful situation going on for many though, and not being able to access 999 Shock

ElephantOfRisk · 30/11/2021 23:00

Well there was some word from our wonderful leader..

Nicola Sturgeon tweeted on Tuesday afternoon saying those facing the "almost intolerable" situation would receive help as soon as possible.

GrouchyKiwi · 30/11/2021 23:04

That sounds awful Aurea. I'm glad you're OK. And able to help others. Smile

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 01/12/2021 08:09

Our power was only off 24 hours thank god, friends in Glen Esk have been told it 'might' be tomorrow...

Our neighbours' stone chimney blew off last week and took out their beautiful stained glass porch. Lucky nobody was in it at the time Shock

A friend who was on call out for the Hydro on Friday night emailed me and said it was like nothing he'd ever seen before, he had to go back to the base to get a chainsaw and cut through multiple trees on the roads on the way to jobs. He drive three clear hours across Scotland and saw not one house with power.

ssd · 01/12/2021 08:23

Good grief. Its not really being reported how bad this has been. I did see a wee bit on the news but not enough. Of course this new varient is all they are talking about but this storm seems to have been a bit ignored. The government should be sending the army out to help.

GrouchyKiwi · 01/12/2021 15:57

I can't believe some people are going to stay without power till Friday. That's awful. The weather is bitterly cold.

I'm super tired today and struggling to Do Things. Would prefer to be asleep.

RaraRachael · 01/12/2021 19:28

A work colleague has been without any power or electricity since Friday and thinks it may be another couple of days before they're sorted. They're not even in a rural area so I can't understand what the problem is. So much for NS's promises.

On the cauliflower front, I love it but OH isn't keen. We used to have cauliflower cheese as a tea some nights which was lovely and any time we had it as a vegetable it was with white sauce. My MiL once served it just boiled and I sat there waiting for the white sauce that never came - it was so bland.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2021 19:41

It’s delicious roasted with spices, Middle Eastern style

titsintiers · 02/12/2021 06:28

Another cauliflower lover here. Pakora is my favourite way to have cauliflower.

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2021 08:45

Pakora @titsintiers 😍

Can you tell I’m on a diet..?

prettybird · 02/12/2021 08:55

I love pakora too but can't have them on a a HFLC WoE - at least, not in the weight loss phase Sad. Once I'm at maintenance, I can have them as the occasional treat Grin

Talking of gram (chick pea) flour: that's my secret for crispy potatoes. Par boil the potatoes and then shoogle with a spoonful or so of gram flour. Leave to cool (if there's time) and then roast as normal in whatever oil/fat you usually use.
