Thanks @ElephantOfRisk

@shouldistop oh no, what a shame.

shouldistop · 02/02/2022 21:01

Hopefully. I'm just about to go into bed with him so I can keep an eye on his temperature overnight. His rooms on a different floor to ours and I don't like him being so far away when he's not well.
I feel like I've got a sore throat and ears but don't know if I'm imagining it.
Ds2 has got a really snotty nose but no temperature.

mapleleavesreturn · 02/02/2022 21:19

3 out of 4 of us have had covid the last two weeks, no fever, snotty, sore throat and cough. Good luck should hope you don't have a bad night.

GrouchyKiwi · 02/02/2022 21:34

Hope he's better soon should and the rest of you stay well.

Groovee · 02/02/2022 21:38

@shouldistop

Ds1 developed a raging temperature today, I think he's got the dreaded Covid since half of his class have it.
Hoping it's not Covid x
Groovee · 02/02/2022 21:39

Ah sometime to get on Mumsnet! Work has been full on. Had the wee one this morning then part 1 of the bookbug course. So been catching up on housework this afternoon.

shouldistop · 03/02/2022 07:01

Got the result back, it is Covid. Hopefully he's feeling better today. He was pretty bad overnight with being hot and achy legs

mapleleavesreturn · 03/02/2022 08:11

Poor thing, sorry to hear that should

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 14:36

Hope everyone having a decent day today and all ill people are on the mend.

DS1 had his chat about his assignment thing for his potential placement today. He thought it went well. They said they will let him know shortly. He was the last one of those in for the placement to have this meeting. Fingers crossed for a good outcome here.

Fingers crossed for him Smile

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 15:00

Thanks. I'm hoping he hears either way before the weekend and then we can either commiserate and plan for any more interviews or more hopefully, celebrate!

Ooh, fingers crossed @ElephantOfRisk!

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 15:26

Thanks, I thought there might be another interview after this but seems not.

Fingers crossed Elephant. When I recruit I always try and let people know before the weekend.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 16:03

Thanks @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo. I obviously wasn't there and DS is not the most communicative (although I did hear him talking away as I snuck past his door) but the impression I got was that it could be as soon as tomorrow - reading between the sparse lines I squeezed out of him!

In other good news, ds submitted his dissertation yesterday afternoon (deadline was today he is not his mother's son Blush) .

It reads well and is interesting - whether it is what they're looking for is another matter Wink What does come across is that he did a shed load of reading as part of his research Grin

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2022 16:51

Well done @prettybird’s boy!

Lidlfix · 03/02/2022 18:17

Well done to dissertation hand-iners and interviewees. Seeing DD1 go through teaching interviews in lockdown and then still virtual when we returned last year was torture. Are in person graduations back?

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 18:17

Oh good job @prettybird. When would he hear how he has done?

Also just thinking I'll probably be in exactly the same boat this time next year with DS2, No idea what DS1 requires for his 5th year.

Thank you. It's all so different for them , with all different challenges from covid restrictions etc. it's so nice hearing about how well they've done to overcome these. I hope graduations are back, they deserve a bit of a proper celebration with their peers.

Well done to your DSs, Elephant and prettybird!

prettybird · 03/02/2022 18:42

Not sure if he gets told the grade for the dissertation on its own @ElephantOfRisk

Dh and I self justified the support that we gave him in proof-reading and asking him to clarify bits is that as a "Covid Years" student, he (along with his peers) have lost out on "normal" interactions and the opportunity to discuss ideas with fellow students and properly (ie in person) with his tutors and supervisor.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/02/2022 18:49

The only support I can offer is moral or financial! Poor boy Grin

I would think the key is pick something you are really interested in that hasn't already been done to death where there is so much material available that it doesn't leave you space for your own view. Given his continued interest in the history of the middle east and Alexander the Great etc, I think he will be tempted to cover something in there but I would imagine that that is a popular choice.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/02/2022 08:17

Well done @prettybird DS. Any news from yours @elephant?

We are in S2 and the subject choice phase here. I don't remember having this must angst for my own back in the day!

ElephantOfRisk · 04/02/2022 09:36

DS still in bed so no clue if he's heard yet. Thank you for asking.
