It has gone very quiet here, are you all blethering on Facebook?

GrouchyKiwi · 27/01/2022 21:07

All of my Mumsnet threads are a bit quiet at the moment. January is a weird month.

I made poutine for dinner tonight. I think that Canada is onto something there and I might need to check it out further, made by someone who knows what they're doing.

prettybird · 27/01/2022 21:07

I tried using the FB link but it had expired/been removed Sad

@ElephantOfRisk can vouch for me Halo

Can someone PM an invitation pretty please Smile

ElephantOfRisk · 27/01/2022 21:19

I'll do it @prettybird.

Sent you the wrong one first time! Second link is the right one.

@prettybird sorry, the link expired. I see you're sorted now Smile

shouldistop · 28/01/2022 16:37

What's everyone's plans for the weekend? We're going for a swim in the morning then ds1 has a play date at his friends in the afternoon. On Sunday I'm taking the kids and my niece and nephew for a walk with a picnic :)

GrouchyKiwi · 28/01/2022 16:50

Sounds like a nice weekend. Smile

The girls have swimming on Saturday, and if the weather's not too horrible they're going to meet a friend to play at a park.

I'll be getting the house tidied up. Rock n roll.

GrouchyKiwi · 28/01/2022 16:50

Play date on Sunday. Forgot that bit.

ElephantOfRisk · 28/01/2022 18:32

Hairdresser for me. I know that for many that is pampering and a treat. But I have curls and they will brush my hair then stick me in the window looking like a Poundland Lion King while I shit myself pondering if they will listen to me when I say "it jumps up a lot" . I last had my haircut whenever they opened last year and before that was 18 months. It's up there with the dentist Blush

Haudyourwheesht · 28/01/2022 19:12

We can't go swimming till late afternoon as the training pool is closed most of the weekend day for swimming lessons, which is a pita, as we're generally out early people! It feels like the whole day is spent hanging about waiting to go swimming.

ElephantOfRisk · 28/01/2022 19:17

I prefer the dentist too @lidlfix but I don't have your curls issue. I have no idea why so many places seem to be unable to cut curly hair?

Mine is poker straight, fine (but was always told there is loads of it) and honestly it can be cut in about 10 minutes. I just hate sitting having to look at myself. I've also lost a lot of hair over the last year, not sure if it's just old age or the stress but I now have layers of fluffy baby hair that seems resistant to styling and I'm trying not to use my fave babyliss curly dryer brush thing in case it pulls more out, also not wanting to tie it back for the same reason. I do need it cut though as it was June when I last had it cut.

Hope your haircut goes well Smile

There is a place in Glasgow that's supposed to be amazing for curls, the knowledge might hit our wee part of the world in time for my first blue rinse Grin. I am seriously considering a Dyson hairdryer if anyone here has any thoughts.

Groovee · 28/01/2022 20:26

What's this about Facebook?

I lost it this week. I tried to hand in my notice at work, cried for hours.

My head phoned me and sorted me out. I'm very grateful to her. She did say she was surprised I hadn't cracked before now.

Staffing has been hard and the children are dropping like flies with Covid. Some really poorly. It just all got on top of me this week.

Groovee · 28/01/2022 20:27

Oh we're going to the in-laws for our new year meal 4 weeks late 😂🥳 I made another tablet cheesecake for it x

Lidlfix · 28/01/2022 20:35

Groovee Thanks. Glad you have a supportive HT. There are still significant levels of absences for staff and pupils where I am too. But nothing like seeing wee ones get really poorly that must be distressing.

ElephantOfRisk · 28/01/2022 20:37

@Groovee, you've done so well to keep going, sometimes it's when the pressure comes off a wee bit that it hits you. You need to take care of yourself.

@shouldistop can you post another link for the FB page? I'm not sure if I can do that? I sorted out prettybird as she was already on my FB friends list.

We've been pretty much back to normal at work the past couple of days. Both staff and pupil absences back to normal.

Groovee · 28/01/2022 22:22

I think this is really the first time we've been hit this badly. We'd had 2 staff absences due to Covid up to Dec 2021 and a few pupils. This time it's really running riot so it's been a shock. Plus when 4/6 nursery staff are off with Covid it's tough for those left. We have been exceptionally lucky up to now.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/01/2022 08:34

That sounds awful @Groovee

I had a boozy catch up with a chum and my mother is coming to stay for the weekend. More an obligation than anything, but it'll be nice to see her.

@Lidlfix I feel your pain re the hairdressers. I have curls too (well, when my hair is longer, bizarrely it's fairly straight when short) and it took years to find a hairdresser that could cut it properly (his ex wife is very curly which helped!). Have you tried posting here or on local fb groups to see if anyone can recommend anyone who knows what they are doing?

Now, I should go try that fb link seeing as I missed it last week too!

Groovee · 31/01/2022 07:02

Been hiding from the wind. I hate the wind x
