WouldBeGood · 22/12/2021 17:22

Cheeseburger pasta @Groovee? 😃

shouldistop · 22/12/2021 17:25
@Groovee, tablet cheesecake sounds utterly amazing.

And prosecco in the hot tub, wow, i wouldn't mind that myself Xmas Grin

I went into Glasgow for a wander in the peeing rain today, god its awful, so many places closed or boarded up. Depressing.
Glasgow's a shit hole now isn't it? I feel quite upset whenever I'm in town and see what it's become.

ssd · 22/12/2021 17:30

Yes a total shit hole. It was depressing wandering about. Ive worked in retail in Glasgow since late 80s and my god its went downhill completely.

ssd · 22/12/2021 17:34

Princes Square like a ghost town...D'Arcys and buzzy wares closed down. The Rogano closed down and boarded over!!!! Umpteen shops closed down.

Awful

rookiemere · 22/12/2021 18:09

Oh that's so sad about Glasgow @ssd I worked there many years ago and loved Princes Square at Christmas time when they had the big tree in the middle.

ecceromani · 22/12/2021 18:25

I am awarding myself Prosecco in the hot tub (in the pissin rain) for my services to my offspring

Oh that made me laugh @Lidlfix
Love Prosecco and hot tub but I reckon I'm allergic to pissng rainGrin

rookiemere · 22/12/2021 18:38

Has anyone been to Edinburgh zoo recently? Looks like we're going on Christmas Eve with some relatives and their toddler - excitingly even teen DS has agreed to tag along, and I'm wondering what the food options are like these days .

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2021 18:46

Thanks @Groovee!

Haudyourwheesht · 22/12/2021 19:26

The Rogano kept claiming it would reopen, but no indicators at all so far.

I was also in town today and it was busier than I expected. Bars and restaurants looked pretty busy mid afternoon. I agree about all the boarded up shops though - it's depressing. I see Next on Argyle St is closing down too - that's another big hole, right on the corner.

ssd · 22/12/2021 19:43

I didnt go up argyle Street, thats bad if next is closing there too.

I think out of town stores might be doing better, easier parking and more open air

To bring the mood up again, I had a lovely trip down to Ardrossan today to pick up two legs of green bacon (one for me, one for SIL) with which to make hams (SIL always enjoyed my ham and started making her own last year) and at the same time visit my oldest friend (as in, how many years I've known her Wink) of 49 years (technically 57 years but I can't remember the playgroup) Xmas Grin. We had a lovely natter and lots of laughs - as we always go when we meet up Xmas Smile

The butcher's (Bicket's) now knows me as the mad lady from Glasgow who makes the annual trek down to get my legs of bacon Xmas Blush (they have their own farm). It's worth it though Xmas Smile

Only for the adult only nights where specialist companies came in... there were cafes though they were for staff breaks.

What is green bacon? I'm imagining green eggs and ham Dr Seuss style.
titsintiers · 22/12/2021 21:31

😆@Groovee you took the words out of my mouth.

prettybird · 22/12/2021 21:45

Green bacon just means unsmoked cured pic meat, aka bacon Xmas Wink. After boiling and baking it becomes gorgeous ham.

Currently soaking in the upstairs bath that only ever got used when our main bathroom was being replaced this summer and tomorrow I'll boil it and then bake/glaze it the following day. Xmas Smile

I'll post up a picture once it's done. It's not cheap but a once a year treat that everyone especially ds loves Xmas Grin

Ooh never heard of it but look forward to hearing and seeing all about it
ElephantOfRisk · 22/12/2021 22:30

Well I just had a panic that I hadn't put post it notes on stuff not to be eaten until Christmas. Thankfully even though DSs have been down for supper, they were distracted by some croissants and muffins and the desserts in the fridge have escaped unscathed.

I'm here for the ham pictures too.

Also looking forward to seeing pictures of ham. Grin

I intend to make my own corned beef. Have bought the special salts but haven't been brave enough to make it yet.

I'm really pleased Smile: I've got a good friend of my mum's (they did their M Lits together - Mum as a mature student) to agree to do the final proof read of ds' dissertation. I'd have got my mum to do it, as she was always my "go to" for grammatical and stylistic advice, even once I was at work (I'd even get work colleagues, when I was in my 40s, getting me to ring her for advice!) - but she died 9 years ago Sad and anyway wasn't capable for a number of years before that after her accident (so ds can't actually remember the "real" her Sad).

I remembered that my mum used to say that this friend was even better then her, so I contacted her and she was happy to agree. (I'd even been thinking of contacting @Lidlfix Shock). Ive been doing some copy-editing for him but I'm his mum Wink This friend actually worked as a copy-editor for a big publishing house post-graduation and subsequent roles still involved a fair amount of editing.

The even better news is that ds is happy that I've made contact with her and hasn't got stroppy with me Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 22/12/2021 23:23

That is good news prettybird.

I used to work as a copy-editor for a big financial company, but always wanted to work in publishing. Smile

Lidlfix · 23/12/2021 08:07

I quite enjoy proofreading, gives me a chance to indulge in language geekiness. Well, maybe not when DDs send me essays at bedtime which are due the next day.

My Southern Hemisphere Dsis and I were reminiscing about how I devoured her Xmas ham leftovers in a fit of jet lagged starvation when my body craved lunch at 0200. Ham is taken very seriously where she is and ladies swoon over ham bags.

shouldistop · 23/12/2021 08:12

Panto today Grin big ds and I are so excited.
