Just that really, if you've been, would you recommend here for younger teens/tweens? Thanks 😊

Mine got more out of the illusion house, will think of the name in a mo.

FlibbertyGiblets · 23/11/2021 23:36

Camera Obscura. Sorry for my brain fart.

JamesGetIn · 24/11/2021 09:37

Thanks @FlibbertyGiblets

We've done camera obscura/illusions.

Really fancied Dynamic Earth but the website pics featured younger kids so I wasn't sure how much they'd enjoy it.

Anyone else? Thanks.

No, it’s shite, evenfor younger kids. Absolute waste of time and money.

GoGoGretaDoll · 24/11/2021 09:46

I think it's really dull, even the actual glacier is like 'wow' for the first three seconds then it's dull. Camera Obscura is better, also the museum is great if you haven't been?

FlibbertyGiblets · 24/11/2021 09:49

Oh yes the museum of Scotland is incredible. Not just Dolly, and the spaceship, and the fousty stuffed animals and the rocks and minerals and the silver and the chessmen etc but v nice chocolate cake to be had in the cafe #priorities

Thegirlwiththeeagereyes · 24/11/2021 15:50

I would agree with PP, we were disappointed with Dynamic Earth. National Museum of Scotland is much better and it's free!

weebarra · 24/11/2021 15:53

I think Dynamic Earth is probably for younger ones. Mine (8,11 and 13) really enjoyed Camera Obscura

villamariavintrapp · 24/11/2021 15:55

It's rubbish

Justmuddlingalong · 24/11/2021 15:55

I wouldn't recommend it. We found it really boring. I think it would be a waste of money for teens.

Strawberryjampot · 24/11/2021 15:58

I agree, not great. I’d recommend one of the ranger walks on Arthur Seat. Lots of geology chat and they’re free….

Knitter99 · 24/11/2021 16:07

Dynamic Earth has a lot of videos to watch on big screens , you get shaken around ever so slightly on the volcano one for example. I would think it was pretty basic info for any teens with a vague interest in geography or geology. They are quite nice films though, I liked watching the flying over glaciers one.
Then there's a 4d cinema experience where they blow air and water at you, my kids liked that when they were 8, they would find it all a bit tame now. Although again it's well done, you think the animals are jumping out at you, I liked it.
And a rainforest that's quite nice to look at for a minute or two.
That's it as far as I can remember. Tiny soft play for tiny kids, average cafe, average shop.

Go somewhere else, unless it's raining, then at least you'd be inside.

It's not awful, but it's pretty basic. We'd go to the museum or camera obscura instead of Dynamic Earth every time.

jerometheturnipking · 24/11/2021 16:08

Dynamic Earth is overpriced and shite, even for younger ones. Agree that the National Museum is better (and free!). I like seeing what animal I weigh as much as, or how many of us it takes to weigh the same as a bear.

JamesGetIn · 24/11/2021 23:07

Thanks everyone, really appreciate your input. I was very close to booking! We're definitely ditching it and going to the museum of Scotland instead now! 😊

Have a smashing time!

Thank you @FlibbertyGiblets 😀

You also get to pop and see greyfriars Bobby if you go to the museum.

Doidontimmm · 25/11/2021 08:05

Edinburgh dungeon is much better for that age.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 25/11/2021 09:15

My current issue with the NMS though is that lots of stuff is closed off because of covid. Anything interactive or fun in the technology section seems to have been roped off or removed.

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2021 13:27

@FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping I was just going to say that. Lots of bad reports about this.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/11/2021 10:48

Mary Kings Close is good, if a bit cheesy. Though it can really depend on the guide you get.
