LFT instead of vaccine passport

How will this work in practice? If people can just do a free NHS test and use this as proof what's to stop people just handing over one they did weeks ago? I can't see how this isn't open to abuse. Or will venues expect people to do one there and then? I can't find an explanation anywhere of how this will actually work.

You need to register your test on NHS app same day and show that as proof

botanics · 23/11/2021 17:17

Thanks. But from my experience you self report the result in Scotland so you can say it was negative even if it wasn't.

I was wondering the same about this. All the NHS site asks is if your result was negative or positive. There's no way of proving it's the true result 🤷‍♀️

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/11/2021 18:17

Yep. Same here in wales. You don't even have to do the test. Just log the result on the nhs page as negative and show the text 'proof'.

ecceromani · 23/11/2021 18:19

It is totally open to abuse.
People who went to the large events in the summer which required negative LFT pointed this out..
Some people were just flashing the same test result each time🤷🏼‍♀️

Mantlemoose · 23/11/2021 18:22

It just doesn't really work at all does it. Party at our local recently has the birthday boy knowingly think he was positive but didn't want to not have his party so he did and obviously caused a few others to catch it..let's at the door? Who the heck knows!

Stressymcstress · 23/11/2021 18:30

….the same way having both vaccines doesn’t “prove” that you don’t have covid? Both are open to abuse.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/11/2021 18:34

I'm pretty sure my friend and I both caught covid at the same theatre that was requiring passports to be shown on entry.

The other thing is that the qr code on the actual passport is a waste of time too if they arent going to verify it.

Every place I've been asked for it has either glanced at it and said thanks in you go.

Or asked I'd I had one then didnt ask to actually see when I said I did.

Or actually scanned the code but then didnt ask to see any ID to prove it was my personal pass and not someone else's.

Haudyourwheesht · 23/11/2021 21:30

It's a bit of an honour system at this point. There are ways round most proof required so I suppose they're just hoping it'll pick out the majority.

You need to register A test. How will the app know that it's a test which any particular individual took?
botanics · 24/11/2021 08:25

It doesn't. The whole thing seems pointless!

Yes, sturgeon quietly doing away with covid passes after Boris didn't follow suit. The passes were also open to abuse, loads of people borrowing other peoples. The point of the passes wasn't to make anywhere safer, the point was to drive up vaccination uptake. Both the Scottish and UK governments have said this.

Dentistlakes · 24/11/2021 09:02

It’s a total waste of time. You don’t even have to do a test, just register it and you can lie about the result. I don’t see the point.
