And I’ll never download the app either.

Think the hospital story is tip of iceberg with NHS Scotland (read:ScotGov) failings re hospitals, covid has been covering up the cracks- quite literally it seems- for 18months.

mibbelucieachwell · 19/11/2021 16:28

Wow resilience the SG is a truly cynical shower if your hunch is correct. What a sorry tale. Who would be sacked? Head of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde?
Head of the QEH?
JL? He's been very quiet lately.

NS uses covid rates per 1,000 when she wants to justify something she has allowed eg COP 26 and keeping schools opened and rates per 100,000 when she's justifying restrictions. Sneaky eh? Not sneaky enough though.

ElephantOfRisk · 19/11/2021 18:48

For me it's not about this one case. is the accumulation of all the issues for which no-one is taking accountability. Of course things will happen and not everyone can be perfect 100% of the time. At the end of the day the man died, probably hastened by infections he caught in the hospital. That fact is not altered by whether his wife was told about the infection or not.

What is important is that how and why he caught the infection is investigated to stop it happening. It might have been poor controls, or human error or whatever. Maybe someone was highly negligent, maybe lots of folk were not doing what they should have in small ways that accumulated into a big thing.

Clearly something stinks about the whole situation but it seems to keep getting kicked into the long grass.

Scottishskifun · 19/11/2021 19:28

I am so fucking angry tonight!!!!

The SG "evidence paper" is no bloody evidence its just threats! Have vaccine passports or we will lockdown and limit social contacts and venues to "further suppress the virus....."

It's not a evidence paper it's holding people over a barrel and saying want to be tied to it by your hands or your feet......

There is another option don't tie people to the barrel in the first place!

ResilienceWanker · 19/11/2021 20:55

Yes. Obviously I don't know anything more than any of us about what is being reported, and I don't know who's scalp is being sought oh, please let it be JL but the timing and nature of the story doesn't seem quite "natural" IYSWIM. I know overall there is a bigger picture of mismanagement, poor infection control and so on, beyond this story alone, and that totally needs to be identified and put right ASAP - but it also seems to be hinting at other failings beyond those caused by covid. Mysterious....

And I agree ski. That's a good way of putting it re being tied to a barrel by our own choosing! It starts on the assumption we NEED to "further suppress the virus" . Well, why?! What's wrong with keeping it steady and boosting immunity/ developing treatments for anyone who catches it. Why is that less valid than "suppressing" cases? I thought we were moving away from the idea that eradicating the virus was the aim anyway... Absolutely no "evidence" there as far as I can see. Angry

Tiredoftiers · 19/11/2021 21:17

I wonder if they are going to nationalise the health boards. Just nhs Scotland, no more boards.

Beepbeeprichie · 19/11/2021 21:19

@tiredoftiers probably. Worked out well for the police. Hmm

Lockdownbear · 19/11/2021 21:43

The health boards buy services in other places anyway ie if you've a kid who needs dialysis the only place in Scotland is Edinburgh. I'm sure they'll be services that only exist in Glasgow too.

I don't see a benefit in dissolving the Health boards, but i don't know why they changed the police either other than to push the "Scotland" branding.

I'm so cynical everything with them comes down to tartan and flag waving.
Maybe they'll change the NHS boards and plonk tartan blankets on the beds instead of the static nylon numbers(that are probably dead easy to wash)

Beepbeeprichie · 19/11/2021 21:56

@Lockdownbear the benefit is not to us. The benefit is to SG as it becomes one entity which is easier to control and ensure it stays on message. SG was warned that merging the police into one force would be incredibly costly (VAT) but they did it anyway. No good reason.

WouldBeGood · 19/11/2021 21:59

To be honest though it might save money. At work this week I found pit each health board has records the others can’t access. So patient transfer is without info. They have to get paper copies or emails over when someone can be arsed to send them 🤷🏻‍♀️

I work in construction, know some of the companies involved in the design and builds very well, and have taken a close interest in the QEUH and Edinburgh Sick Kids, and the additional moneys those two alone have cost over the published budgets is eye watering

WouldBeGood · 20/11/2021 11:10

Oh. I’ve just seen the “evidence paper”. Which contains no evidence in support of vaccine passports. FFS

Yep it's shit and they have completely ignored the third option of continuing as we are and allowing immunity to build whilst using boosters to protect the vulnerable (as is the current case in England).

It's horrific that this is going to be pushed through partly thanks to the greens desire to "be in govt" for a party who was so against passports in the summer! Reminds me of lib dems/tory partnership..... Ignoring their principles for power!

WouldBeGood · 20/11/2021 11:59

It really is disgusting. Why don’t they just say we don’t need them, England is doing just fine without them, or masks?

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 20/11/2021 12:03

In other news the Alba party is having its gathering. I am not a fan of independence nor AS, but at least they are actually discussing issues like the plans for currency and the set up of a Parliament with more scrutiny, instead of gender pish or keeping us safe.

(In case it seems I’m supporting them, someone there is claiming that a central bank could be set up in weeks… 🙄)

MLMshouldbeillegal · 22/11/2021 10:00

Agree with all of your railing. Nothing has changed, has it?

Masks in schools - education secretary said on 16th August that masks would go "as soon as possible". www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-58228512 That was over 3 months ago. DD is having super fun trying to do her higher drama performance, masked up.

No parents evenings. Our school/local authority has been totally shit with the online stuff all the way through this, basically East Dunbartonshire took the position that it was up to the individual teachers to decide whether they wanted to do video lessons or other online stuff, and if they didn't, that was fine. What the parents wanted and what the kids needed/wanted - irrelevant.

Vaccine passport - don't have it, don't want it. I'm not one for clubbing. I have booked panto tickets for me and the two kids who wanted to go as we got a special deal through DD's drama school. £20 plus a free ice cream in the interval. Masks during performance, but you will obviously have to take them off to eat your ice cream at which point the "risk" stops? As if. Won't be wearing my mask anyway.

#ElsieMcSelfie on twitter has provided lots of laughs but not in a good way, Queen Nicola desperately accosting randomers at Cop26 with cans of Irn Bru and requests for a photo op. Without a mask, of course. Because it's one rule for herself and another for the rest of us oiks, isn't it?

Swinney - an utter embarrassment and incompetent but that's nothing new. Ditto Blackford.

Lockdown/further restrictions. Well Queen Nic can bang on all she likes about "just because you can doesn't mean you should" or ban us from leaving East Dunbartonshire, or ban us from having friends over but I won't be complying. And i'm sure I'm far from alone in that.

We're two years into this shit almost, that's a huge slice of children's lives, and a huge slice of the years my elderly parents may have left. Even the liberal Dutch are rioting over this nonsense of more restrictions when everyone is vaxxed.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 22/11/2021 10:06

Oh and I've also just read that Queen Nic, aka Elsie McSelfie has hired out Bute House - her official residence which we all pay for and which is not available for private lets - to Val McDiarmid for a book launch.

Val and Elsie McSelfie being besties and all that. Hmm But noooooo, the SNP are all upstanding and honest!

Yeah I saw that, and the latest about a care home that had residents injected with saline instead of covid vacc. Scotgov knew but didn't tell and it appears unknown how often thus has happened.
ElephantOfRisk · 22/11/2021 10:10

Sorry that sounds like they deliberately had them injected with saline, that's not the case, it was accidental.
