Can NHS 24 prescribe medication?

Can NHS 24 prescribe medication like antibiotics after a remote consultation, or would they always send you to OOH or A&E? Also what would happen if you were self-isolating? Thanks

Yes they can. I had a call back from a doctor who prescribed antibiotics and electronically sent the prescription to nearest open chemist.

I had an infected bursitis with a fever etc so potentially serious but most likely to be fixed by immediate antibiotics. I then discovered I was allergic to penicillin but that's another story. Hope you get sorted out.

Thanks! It was for DH - he ended up getting seen after all, and prescribed antibiotics.

Ah that's good. Useful information for anyone else wondering anyway. The Dr I spoke to was really sensible and was happy with my self diagnosis unlike the helpdesk person (who I know is only doing their job and using checklists) who kept insisting it might be covid as I had a fever. Bursitis is pretty easy to diagnose :)
